HELP!

I am trying to decide what would be best for the children to carry when we go to Disney in Aug.

I am thinking of purchasing a very small backpack (found one at Walmart for $8 but it is not Disney..I need one that might be water resistant and the ones I saw were made out of cloth).

Also if you know where to get a good kids fanny pack - let me know.

THANKS!

How old are your kids? My daughter has been carrying a sling type backpack for years (she is now 13 and still uses it for DW). It is a smaller version and we got it at Jcpenney I believe. It is water proof and has lots of pockets. The best thing is you can just slide the pouch to the front when you sit for a ride. Good luck and have fun. :goodvibes

I forgot my messanger bag at home last time (I honestly thought I had it in the car and didnt) and I bought one of those drawstring backpacks at the park (all I had to take to the park otherwise was my purse or a big big beach bag). That was nice to us. This time I cant decide if I want to take the drawstring bag or the messanger bag (this is really convienent since it fits everything that I need for diapers/snacks/cell/autograph book/pen etc in an organized way). I would say look for a messanger bag (maybe small) or go w/ a backpack because fanny paks annoy me (I dont like things around my waste even belts) but not everyone feels that way.

how old are the kids? My 5yr old carries a child's fanny pack like a sling bag (it's too big for her waist ). It's waterproof and it's a WDW bag. I got it at the World of Disney for less than $5 (it was clearance).

She carries her camera, some pins, her sunglasses and whatever other treasures she decided are must haves for the day. ;)

There are also adult fanny packs at the World of Disney for $20 each. These are waterproof and hold a ton of stuff.

Not sure if the gift shop by Splash Mountain still carries fanny packs but I got mine there a few years ago and it holds a lot plus is completely waterproof.

My kids wore fanny packs with no problem. We got adult ones at WM for $6 I think. If they are too big you just tie a few knots in them. I however hated mine, and slung it over my shoulder, which worked fine too.

I would go w/a fanny pack or back sack....a backpack could get hot and hold too much. I know my son likes to pack up to the kitchen sink, even to the park for a morning!

My kids carry a back pack but usually I have my Disney back pack that carries everything.

This next trip I might make them back sacks to carry their things. I'm just afraid they'll forgot it somewhere or I'll have to hear about how heavy it is. PLUS since they search your bags, it's something else to delay you from getting into the parks. We might just do the one bag.

My son wears a conference badge holder I got at one of the many conferences I attended. He just slips it around his neck every morning, I have a note in there with the resort, my name and cell phone#. He puts his light saber light-up keychain in it, the emergency cell phone (go-phone I purchase for the trip, just in case, God-forbid we get separated) and sometimes his pin lanyard when he is sick of wearing it. I wear one as well with my credit card, our tickets, chapstick etc. It's light and a huge plus is that we don't have to go through the bag check line. :yay:

It is SO HOT, why have them carry a bag at all?????
They can easily wear a "break apart" safety lanyard and be carefree and LIGHT in the HEAT......................

For an August trip I would say a fanny pack. They would not want to lug around a back pack, even if it is small. A fanny pack is not bulky or heavy in any way. My kids carry fanny packs and never had them complain. In fact, they really enjoy it. It gives them their own bag for stuff they can carry(small stuff).

Our kids don't carry anything when we're in the parks. They get hot, they get heavy, and then they'll lose them. Just keep the stuff they need in your pockets-have everybody wear cargo shorts (even you) and you can get through the no-bag line :thumbsup2.

My daughter, 8, got a Tinker Bell fanny pack from the Wallmart down there and wore it the whole trip. She carried her camera, sunglasses and her retainer case and it worked out really well. She liked the idea of the fanny pack over the backpack because she didn't have to take it off to get what she needed.

I've done both a backpack and a fanny pack myself, and I would never do a backpack again (now that my kids are out of dipes) - it was miserable (it doesn't help that most of the ones I see are black or brown).

My boys each have a lanyard with a coin purse on it for pins, money and contact info; a small fanny pack for snacks and drink packets; and a water bottle holder to go on that ($1 each at Walmart).

I would go with the fanny pack. Less likely to take it off, set it down and then forget to pick it up again.

Also not has hot as a back pack on your back.

I would go with a fanny pack, especially in the heat. I always carry a fanny pack and this past time my dd took a small backpack---maybe 8 x 10 in size. My daughter went to Charleston over spring break and took another small backpack and worked great for her.

You beat me to it:thumbsup2 My kids throw a granola bar and when they were little our cell numbers on a lamianted card in their shorts pockets and the sunglasses stay on their faces unless on a ride and hten can o around their necks on a cheap strap.
When they have wanted to do autographs they get white bucket hats and everyone throws a different color sharpie in a pocket to have characters use to sign the hat. We haven't been though the bag search line at all as DS was out of diapers by the time it went up and there is nothing else worth toting a bag through the heat for:confused3

I got my DD age 9 a mini Vera Bradley messenger. VERY small, just big enough for her camera, sunglasses, wallet, and autograph book. I think it will be just right.

My 2 year old got a Tinkerbell messenger style pocketbook at Wal Mart. It's small, too, but I liked that it was messenger and would be harder for her to take off while in the stroller! She'll still have her treasures, but hopefully she can deal with it. She won't have anything in hers but toys!

Fanny pack. It's not heavy and hot like a backpack. I wore a tiny purse backpack once and it drove me crazy. Fanny pack you also don't have to take off to get on rides..you can just turn it to the side to pull the lap bar down. With back pack you usualy have to take it off to ride or at least ride comfortably.
