What is allowed?

By the way: Something else that is not permitted is questioning moderation in public threads. The proper approach is to email the moderators/webmasters, and then accept their reply (or lack thereof).

I just found the closed thread in question. The OP of that thread was going to "chronicle" her pregnancy. :confused3 She also was asking for advice for morning sickness, etc. The expecting mothers thread would be a perfect place for all that. Hopefully she will jump in over there. I guess some folks just want to stand out from the crowd.

If we all decided to chronicle our pregnancies or events in our lives in our own threads, The Disboards would be clogged beyond belief. That is considered blogging. The Duggars thread, from what I can see, focuses on the TV show. Now if Mrs. Duggar came here and posted her own thread about herself, that would be blogging.

You can't have Threads like that here. It should be closed it is a blog.
Trip reports are also not on this board.

There's several dozen pregnant women on here, if they all want their own thread, there will be dozens of them nearly identical. There's not much interest in 30 or more threads on nausea. Your friend falls perfectly into an already existing thread - Moms to Be. :goodvibes

Are you a mod? :confused3

I don't think it's unreasonable for someone to ask for a clarification of the rules by an actual moderator. I'm curious myself.

Exactly...I just wanted some clarification.

I agree with this, but couldn't that be done in a private message to a moderator or the webmaster.

I did PM her, at the suggestion of this thread, and she basically said that this has become an issue...people putting up threads from their personal life? That she should start a blog.

I realize this is a private site and they have the right to do whatever they want to with it...but hopefully we have the freedom to obtain clarification regarding the rules and a discussion about the boards.

I still don't understand why some posters are allowed to continue to post threads about what is going on in their personal life and some posters are not.

Could you please show us links to the other blogs on this site?

But there ARE trip reports and personal blog-type threads on THIS board. It just doesn't make sense as to why some are allowed and others aren't.

I remember a thread entitled "The Dasani Girl is having a baby" or something similar. As I mentioned before, I'm not into those type threads, so have to admit that I have NOT read it, but I can't see how something with a title like that is any different than the thread being discussed in the OP.

Personally, I think they should all be allowed, as this is the Community Board, but I think it is unfair that some are allowed and some aren't.

It almost feels like High School...the "cool kids" can do it, but no one else can.

I agree 100%!!

The OP of the closed thread was excited about her pregnancy. The thread was not a blog, it was a THREAD (as in she posted, others replied, she replied to them, someone else chimes in with something new, etc.) If it were a blog there would be no one else involved in the writing.

So what if there is already a "pregnancy thread"? I've seen some threads about some amazingly stupid stuff here over the years and if I don't want to read them I just don't open them.

There are a few threads right now that are (as Seinfeld would say) dedicated to NOTHING!! At least she was posting about something.;)

And if the thread was not meant to be it would die out on it's own like so many others do here every day...

Dasani

Fauntleroy

Went to google, put in disboards and dasani then disboards and fauntleroy.

Email the webmaster that closed the thread with your question. I believe she gave her reason in the post she made though so I'm not sure what more information there is for you. I don't think we can help.

Yes, but...

Agreed.

I believe the points made were (a) the individual topic/journey/thread was more suited for a personal blog and (b) there is already a group thread for Moms-to-be, where MANY pregnant DISers are sharing their journeys with each other and with other interested readers - and that the poster who started the now-closed thread was directed there.

There are others about babies and pregnancies.

I personally don't think those are appropriate (there are other message boards that I would post such a thread on, far far away from the Dis LOL), so I don't mind the closure of the one yesterday. But I think it should be applied across the board.

Trip reports are also not on this board.

Reports on trips on places OTHER than Disney are allowed here. Or at least they have been. Because there's no OTHER place.

I agree as well. It's a community board, if the community is not interested in it then the thread will naturally fall off and die out. There's so much traffic to these boards that nothing stays on the front page for long unless people are actually interested in it, even if they're just interested in coming and saying they aren't interested (which confuses the heck out of me :confused3).

It's understood you don't agree with the decision. Got it. That's not going to change anything. Arguing, disputing, questioning - none of that is going to change the status of the thread, the opinion of Board Management, the actions of the Moderators/WebMasters.
Aside from questioning the mod's decision to close a thread not changing their mind, it is also against the rules of the DIS.

::yes:: Mmmhmm. I don't really care one way or another about the threads, but there are definitely some becoming more and more :snooty: over their DIS-popularity. ;)

No, I'm not a Moderator. They have to respond much more politely than I have ;)

It's not unreasonable for someone to ask for a clarification of the rules by an actual Moderator. The OP asked several times in this thread (and appears to be disputing any post that doesn't agree with her opinion of the situation), PLUS she e-mailed DIS management for clarification. Even after their response, she/he continues to question the decision.

A trip is NOT in ANY way the same as a pregnancy.

But, again: Moderators do NOT close threads on a whim. The DIS has rules. Period. Don't like the rules, start a blog or a whole new forum, or find a forum where personal chronicling is accepted/encouraged. The Mods are NOT going to reconsider, and to the best of my knowledge a thread has never been reopened. And threads referring to closed threads often get closed as well.

What you say makes sense, but I personally feel that one was let go while the other was locked and told it was an All about me thread.

The rules should be enforced equally.

**Note I am not questioning what the mods did..it is what they failed to do that concerns me and why posters felt the need to post and complain ad nauseum about this one thread, while the others were ignored.:confused3

I saw that, and have seen the other threads dedicated to a pregnacy and the people who chose to follow it. Heck, there is (was?) a thread here about someone growing dread locks and their progress!

Moderating has been subjective for awhile. It is what it is.

It is basically a popularity contest. Like someone else said..The cool kids are allowed to do things and post things and the uncool kids have their very similar posts deleted or are given points.
Many threads are allowed to go on and on and on and on and on and on.......... and when someone else tries to start their own version it is closed. In those times it is obvious who the cool kids are!!
