My family was at AKL in September. It was truly AMAZING! We had originally booked 5 nights, but on the last night decided to stay for just one more! We had been so busy at the parks and wanted to have a day just at the hotel. Our boys (7 and 5 ) were able to do the bead activities and had a great time. There were so many things that we still did not get to participate in. (i.e. cookie decorating, nightly folk tales, tours, the children's medallion rubbing activities, animal viewing with night vision, etc.) We only went swimming once in the beautiful pool. The lifeguards also have activites planned in or around the pool (games, crafts, etc.) We always enjoyed talking to the CM's, especially at the savannahs. They really seemed to want to talk about their passion for these animals. My kids really enjoyed the time with them.
We tend to lean toward American cuisine (i.e cheeseburgers, salads, pizza, etc.) so we enjoyed the Mara. The Mara and the gift shop were great places to purchase popcorn, chips, drinks, and doughnuts and pop-tarts for breakfast. I hope on our next visit to try the Boma.
Some have been disappointed in the transportation and the location of the AKL from some of the parks. We may have waited as long as 10 minutes - maybe! Even at park closings, we were either able to get on a bus immediately or another bus arrived in a very short time. We enjoyed the bus ride - especially at the end of the day. It was a nice time to relax and wind down.
The hotel looked so beautiful when we walked in from our long days at the park. We did have a savannah view room and enjoyed it, but equally enjoyed viewing the animals from the savannah overlooks or looking through the windows while we were walking to the lobby.
We were there with my parents and we all had a wonderful time. In fact, my entire family (21 of us) will be visiting in February. How fun will that be! I know you'll have a great time.
