Me and my family is going to WDW in june 2005. We are thinking about staying at the AKL and then going to the Poly. What is the AKL like. please discribe with really good details. Thank you.

Have you searched for photos online? That would be your best bet. We stayed there and loved it. It has a beautiful African (somewhat rustic but also classy) decore. The rooms are not real big but are very comfortable Most with views of the grassy savanahs and the animals some with pool views and some with views out the front overlooking the entrance area. We spent a lot of time on our balcony watching the Wildebeest, Giraff, Gemsbok and a couple other animals.
Go to Yahoo or google, click on the "images" button right above where you enter the works Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and then click on search. You should get loads of photos.

My family was at AKL in September. It was truly AMAZING! We had originally booked 5 nights, but on the last night decided to stay for just one more! We had been so busy at the parks and wanted to have a day just at the hotel. Our boys (7 and 5 ) were able to do the bead activities and had a great time. There were so many things that we still did not get to participate in. (i.e. cookie decorating, nightly folk tales, tours, the children's medallion rubbing activities, animal viewing with night vision, etc.) We only went swimming once in the beautiful pool. The lifeguards also have activites planned in or around the pool (games, crafts, etc.) We always enjoyed talking to the CM's, especially at the savannahs. They really seemed to want to talk about their passion for these animals. My kids really enjoyed the time with them.

We tend to lean toward American cuisine (i.e cheeseburgers, salads, pizza, etc.) so we enjoyed the Mara. The Mara and the gift shop were great places to purchase popcorn, chips, drinks, and doughnuts and pop-tarts for breakfast. I hope on our next visit to try the Boma.

Some have been disappointed in the transportation and the location of the AKL from some of the parks. We may have waited as long as 10 minutes - maybe! Even at park closings, we were either able to get on a bus immediately or another bus arrived in a very short time. We enjoyed the bus ride - especially at the end of the day. It was a nice time to relax and wind down.

The hotel looked so beautiful when we walked in from our long days at the park. We did have a savannah view room and enjoyed it, but equally enjoyed viewing the animals from the savannah overlooks or looking through the windows while we were walking to the lobby.

We were there with my parents and we all had a wonderful time. In fact, my entire family (21 of us) will be visiting in February. How fun will that be! I know you'll have a great time.

It's a destination all on it's own. I like it better than AK itself.

So much to explore and the ambience draws you in. Stay there if you possibly can, just remember it is the most remote of all resorts and you will rely on buses for transportation.

AKL is a beautiful resort. Watching the animals is amazing, especially if you have a Savannah view room. :)

We really enjoy the AKL but we have a family of animal lovers. Waking up to see the animals on the savannah is wonderful. And, the lodge itself is very nice with tons of artwork. One of the best things is talking with the guides posted at the viewpoints on the savannah that surround the hotel. You can learn an enormous amount of info as they are from many different countries and often come to work for 6 months or a year. Very interesting.

However it is more out of the way than the other resorts ... which we like ... Disney but in a little different type of environment. So we split our stay and are in the "middle" of it at one of the other resorts for 1/2 the stay and then move to the AKL for the last half. It works great for us.
