What is a "tag" and why would you want to be tagged?

I see post after post menyioning being tagged and I still can't figure it out. Can somebody help me here?

As a tagless DIS'r I'll try to help:

See your username, and "Welcomed Guest"
underneath it?
DIS puts that there until you've posted
30 times (I think it's 30), at that point you
can go to your User CP page and put
in anything you'd like to describe yourself
or your world (up to a point).
See mine? I like road trips...

You'll notice on other DIS'rs posts that
they have 2 or 3 OTHER lines underneath
their usernames, (and in COLOR!!) - these are the tags.
The illusive Tag Fairies are the ones that
leave them - no telling who, when or what!

One can only dream of being tagged...
It's become the personal goal of
many a DIS'r - including me... Sigh...
Perhaps one day I'll say something
winsome and witty, until then I dream :charac2:

I'll post as a comparison to show a tagged DISer. :)

I don't think there's any strategy to being tagged. Just something you say makes the "tag fairy" smile and all of a sudden...there it is! Mine came from a response to a "what's the funniest thing your child has done at WDW?" thread. I had shared that while sitting by the HUGE line to meet Ariel during our New Years Week trip my then 3 yo DS asked what they were waiting for. I told him and he asked if Ariel was a princess. I said yes and asked if he wanted to stand in the line to meet her (silently praying he'd say no since we were near the sign saying "you are 1 hour and 40 mintues from meeting Ariel" and that wasn't the end of the line!). He looked at me like I'd suggested he eat some broccoli and said "no! We don't need stinkin' princesses!" That became our family's vacation theme!

o.k. I am trying to understand this tag thing. A tag fairy puts a colored caption under your name for fun. The user doesn't write it themselves. Is that right? I'm some what confussed.

Joy:confused:

You can write whatever you want yourself but it'll be in black. When the tag fairy comes and grants you a tag, he/she gives it color.

If you look at my tags, the first one was my own but the TF colored it. The second tag, the TF gave that to me, I didn't write that one out.

Oogieboogie Thank you for clearing that up. I get it now:teeth:

Buy the way A Nightmare Before Christmas Is one of my Ds(8,6,2) favorite movies. The two year old will watch it over and over again. He knows all the words and songs of the movie.

Thanks again:sunny:

Gosh, I never knew what all those references to tag faries were.

No wonder I could never put color under my name.

Wow, I always thought people put them there themselves. I could never think of anything creative so I never tried. Now I have something new to wish for.

"i wont get tagged im too anTAGonistic." :teeth: (chuckle)

nanu57v: first, congrats on the pregnancy!
And I'm sure you could come up with your own title...
If you ever get "creative" just go to your User CP page,
and go down to User CP Title
(or something like that, I know it says Title),
and create your own!
Edited to say: OOPS! I misunderstood your post (duh)...
Never mind...

To the OP (original post'r):
Titles are different than tags
because the user makes them up - tags are just
a fun addition to posting on the DIS Boards.

I should also mention that Tag Fairies and Board Moderators
are RARELY seen in the same place at the same time
- kinda like Superheroes - 'nuff said? ;)

This tag stuff is dangerous business and should be left to the professionals!!! ;)

I had tags and then thought that I would add one of my own, which erased my colored tags. I then made two of my own and they were colorized by the TF (my first two), with that clever little warned added by the TF. Of course I've learned my lesson and am waiting to be noticed again without reference to my groveling, but that will come in time.

Now luvthatduke, Board Moderators are powerful, but hardly superheroes. ;) As a matter of fact, when I grow up I'd love to be a moderator. :p

Oh, and I think it's 75 posts that makes you a veteran as opposed to a visitor, if I'm remembering correctly.

Made me look, Made me look...

Hi Tigger&Belle, here's the scoop:

After you've been registed for 30 days and you have at least 30 posts, you can edit the "Welcomed Guest" title and have it say anything you like.

The 75 posts refers to when one officially becomes
a "DIS Veteran."
I must be getting close...

... and I learned something new today! Thanks!

I didn't know that a person had to wait a month and 30 posts to edit the welcome guest part. That's good to know so that I don't send a newbie to edit when it isn't possible. :wave2:

Tag Fairy's make your tags from something that you have posted. Some times you get a new one and don't notice for a while. ;)

I do try to be witty as well, and disney magical sayings roll off my fingers...trying to get others dis addicted as i have become...hoping that the fairy will fly over my name soon...i'll wish upon a star tonight and believe that it will come true..

Thanks Papa Deuce for asking about Tag Fairies! I've been reading these boards for months with no clue, but I was too embarassed to ask.

It seems that even people with lots of posts don't know all the info. Do the moderators do the tagging?

I figured it had to do with the lines under your name but I wasn't 100% sure.

Oh no!!!! I hadn't posted for a while and came back. I saw what was written above my name. It said something like "wishing I was wiggling with Anthony Field" in blue. I thought I had done it and forgot (I don't drink a lot, really I don't!) or someone had gotten my password and stuck it over there as a joke! I deleted it because I had no idea how it got there! Oops! And now that it has been explained I know exactly what I said to get it there. Oh no!!!
