What is a Steamer Trunk?

I have seen it mentioned before but don't understand it? Is it something in your room or a type of room? Thank you!

It is something in your room. Basically, it is a dresser. It is a steam trunk that sits in the room, when you open it, there are shelves.

A steamer trunk comes from the old days of sailing on ships that were called "tramp Steamers'

You were booking onto a ship that was taking cargo from port A to port B, and happened to have a small bit of space for a passenger or 10.

Due to the small space, passengers were allowed only one "steamer trunk".

Essentially what we now call foot lockers.

About four feet by two feet by two feet.

I had one for my first transaltantic passage in 1971.

Disney, in a further attempt to evoke the sailing days of yore, has a pice of furniture, a dresser really, that looks like a steamer trunk standing on its side.

It is about 4 feet high, two feet wide with some drawers/shelves in it.

I believe they are only in "Deluxe" rooms (Cat 10 - 4). There isn't enough room in the "Standard" rooms (Cat 12-11).

The reason that some category 10-5 staterooms don't have steamer trunks is that the steamer trunks in those categories require an indentation in the wall -- because steamer trunks in adjacent staterooms are actually side-by-side, not back-to-back. Some staterooms are against structural walls, so there's no indentation.

They are not in every room. We did not have on in our category 11 room.
