What is a rope drope?

I have read several things on the board about rope drops.....what is this?

On some mornings, you are allowed into DL, specifically Main Street about 30 minutes before the park officially opens. At the end of Main Street there is a huge rope spanned across the street. When DL opens and the announcement is made "Attention Ladies & Gentlemen, Boys & Girls, Disneyland is now officially opened", the CM's will drop the rope and you are allowed to safely walk, not run, to your desired destination within the park.

It is also loosely used for any park opening.

Rope drops also apply during Magic Mornings when Adventureland and Frontierland are roped off until the park officially opens.

Main Street rope drop only occurs in DL when the opening time is 9:00 or later.

DCA has their own rope drop because they let guests into the front of the park at 9:30 while Soarin is the only ride open, then at 10:00 they do rope drop for the rest of the park.

I remember one morning, while having an early breakfast at the Plaza Inn, we observed the rope drop. It was when Indiana Jones was THE ride to get to... We watched as the rope dropped and the entire mass of people started a stampede toward Adventureland. It was quite a scene.

And now they all stampede to Nemo. Silly, silly tourists. They don't know the first ride of the day is ALWAYS supposed to be Peter Pan!

Oh boy, not a truer word has been spoken. if you don't hit Peter first, you'll never get to ride it without having to wait in a huge queue. I have to try to remember that next month.
