What is a reasonable weekly car rental rate?

I'm going to rent a car for our upcoming trip. Just too difficult and time consuming to get to places like DTD and Hoop De Doo and w/costs of town car and trip to Universal, thought we'd just rent this year.

With never having done this, have no clue as to what a reasonable weekly rental rate would be!

Our dates are 9/1-8. I am familiar w/the discount codes etc so will find some to use. I just wondered what is really good and what is bad cost wise to use as guide.

For instance, on line, I've gotten quotes for 193 a week w/National combining discounts and contract ids. 201 w/Hertz midsize and should be able to use another coupon for upgrade. Those are inclusive of all taxs and surcharges. Are those rates decent for being less than a month out?

Thanks for your help!

Whoops! Thought I was on the Transportation forum...

Moderator, can you move this over there? Thanks--Sorry!

I would keep checking. Do you have Disney Club? I've paid under $150 using the Disney Club code & $15 off Entertainment Coupon with National. That's also Emerald Aisle. I have a reservation for Oct 1 to 6, it's $176 incl tax, I'm hoping that comes down. In May I only paid $121.

I made a reservation the other day with Alamo a midsize car for $150 including taxes, etc. for 1 week. For a family of 5 we're not used to such a small car, but since it's just to get us around quickly to the parks and other resorts we'll make do. We're still going to take a town car or limo for fun for the kids to get to and from the airport. The full size was $100 more. I thought that was a little unusual. There was a code on Alamo's website for this discount.

I am still in DC and have a $20.00 off weekly rental coupon that is still good. (this is w/National). Using the current contract id brings it to 186 BUT using the past contract ID puts it at 165. I could live with that.

Am leary of using the old one however as I'm sure there's an expiration date tied to it. Will keep checking.

Thanks, Sharon

If it accepts the old code and gives you a reservation number, then go for it. They honor what is printed.

what are your dates....when mentioning a rate you have obtained it helps others if you say when you got that rate for.....by the way that seems to be a good rate ...rates for seven day rentals have been high lately

Lawgs - sorry 'bout that. I'm a novice on doing this board thing. Anyhoo, the rate is a weekly rate from Aug 24-31. I think it is an advance booking rate, but not sure how far in advance you need to book. I was three weeks out when I booked it. Rate was $129 plus taxes.

Thanks,
Karen

Oops - just checked my confirmation email and it was for a 4 door COMPACT, not a midsize. Rate code was QV.

I went ahead and reserved through National and I have EA. Dates 9/1-9/8.

Used contract ID found on Mousesavers for Carlson Wagonlit (looked up on the web and that's an international travel agency)

Then used Rate Code found on Mousesavers and my DC coupon for $20 off.

W/all taxes etc, came to 169.45. I think rentals have really gone up in the last 6 months. I can live with it but will keep checking. I did notice that there was no additional discount shown with the contract id when it gave the quote. I think that got the good rate was the Rate Code and that's a special on their web site.

Considering that towncar and trip to universal on mears was going to be $150 for us, believe the extra $19. will money well spent.

Thanks for everyone's help...Sharon

The discount was probably in the base rate.
