With the Slatkin candles, you don't need anything around the top to get them to burn evenly.
And the jars are crystal clear when the candle is finished, not all black and sooty like the YC.![]()
Not to nitpick, but do you see black sootiness around that jar?

I'll give the FB a try. I was hesitant to try the Slatkin candles because they're kind of unpredictable in terms of fragrance level, and this is coming from a lifelong (well, since they've been around) B&BW fan and former employee. I've had a few of their candles that had almost no fragrance whatsoever; with YC, I always know what I'm getting. But I'm curious now about Fresh Balsam, since it's one of the newer line of candles.
