What is a Pinecone check?

Hi. Thanks for helping me out. I've seen two posts today reference a pinecone check. What is it?

There's a company called Pinecone Research that pays $5 for each Internet survey you complete. Sometimes you also get products to try.

They're a great company and pay quickly, but it's hard to get signed up with them. You can't join at their website, you have to find one of their advertising banners at another site. Unfortunately, members aren't allowed to post any info about those banners (and the banners aren't around all the time, either).
