What is a good price for a flight from SEA to SNA?

I used to fly very regularly but haven't been out and about much since having children...so my ideas of good flight prices are sorely outdated. It seems prices have gone up a LOT in the past four years!

It seems there are a number of people from Washington on here, so I'm hoping you can give me advice on good flight prices. We have two adults and two children (both of whom will need their own seats) flying in September to Disneyland.

I do not know what are good prices from SEA to SNA during that time, but I did come across a website in a wedding planning book I have: farecompare.com

It will give you the supposedly lowest prices of many airlines for each day of each month. However, Southwest is not included on this site, but from experience, I know Southwest to and from Sacramento to Seattle is more expensive than say Alaska. I would say to try Alaska first as SEA is one of their main hubs!

Good luck!

Looks like most airlines are going to add a fuel surcharge along with the price of a ticket. It will be interesting to see what happens as oil goes over 100/barrel.

Yes, I'm wondering if I should book tickets now...are prices on the way up due to the soaring cost of oil? Right now it looks like I can get tickets for $308 +tax--but, online, it looks like the child and adult prices are the same.

BTW, thank you cutedisneygirly for the website recommendation. It is interesting that tickets in January and February are over $100 less expensive than in September.

Right NOW Southwest is having a $99 (plus taxes/fees) one-way fare from SEA to SNA and vice versa, and I consider that to be a very good price. But that is now.

When I was booking our December flights, SNA was over $200 per person each way, and going into Ontario or LAX was much less, so we flew into Ontario.

I'm also looking at Alaskan for January flights, and they are running around 109 and 114 plus taxes and fees each way. They have later-leaving flights than SW, otherwise I would only be looking at the $99 SW...

If you hold off a little while, you should probably be able to get fares in the $250-275 range (if not a wee bit lower, as I saw $238 when pricing a few months ago). $308 seems a little high. It tends to be a little more expensive than LAX, but I think the convenience of a smaller and closer airport is worth it. For our trip in the fall of 2006, airfare to SNA was a little more expensive than LAX, but the shuttle bus was cheaper, so it evened out. I think Alaska is one of the few airlines that flies nonstop from SEA to SNA - that gets a big thumbs up from me! :thumbsup2

I just booked a flight today and in order to get a fair price I had to make some adjustments to my plan. Instead of SNA we are flying into Ontario and we had to book a flight out of Portland for our departure and Seattle for our trip back home. My price was 223.00 a person including tax and it is much less then anything else I was looking at. We live 1 hr from Seattle and almost2 hrs from Portland but I saved 140.00.

When we went Thanksgiving week, it was about $238 per person (including fees) to fly from SEA to SNA on Alaska. That was $109 for each leg of the flight + fees.

I made the arrangements about 4 months before the flights, so there were plenty of seats available at the time.

Thanks for all the help--sounds like I'm safe (I hope!) waiting a few more months. We live two+ hours from SeaTac and a great deal farther from Portland, so I don't want to deal with flying out of Portland. Plus our younger child is a bear in the car.

south west 99 each way has been best ive seen i would grab them up, if i had the money Id do them right now. Since i dont and by time i do it will probley be more excpincve I will just do bus againlol

We have serious issues with Southwest, so I doubt even the $99 pricetag would convince us to fly them again...but it is an excellent deal for those who don't boycott Southwest.

We flew on Alaska for $99 each way last October. I booked in June or July I think. I started regularly checking fares in May or so and waited until the price came down. That is the cheapest it usually gets from them or Southwest. We flew Southwest in Oct '06 and hated it b/c we had a layover and didn't enjoy the drive from Ontario airport that much. Alaska flies into Long Beach, soooo nice and close and easy to get in/out of.

$99 seems to the best deal from sea-sna. Have you thought about flying to LAX instead. I know many people hate flying into LAX, but we've gotten $64 & $69 rates in Sep '05 and Feb '07 throy southwest. Sign up for their ding rates. We've gotten $29 flight to salt lake city as well.

I was going to suggest SW, too, but since you don't like them...well I guess this info might be useful to someone else reading the thread.

I'm flying cross-country (Albany NY to Ontario airport, which is closer to our family) for $99 one way on SW, which is uber cheap to be flying all the way from NY. I did have to fiddle with the dates a bit to get that price (ie, change my plans by a day or the like to keep the price from going up) but it was worth it. Can't beat flying the three of us there and back for under $800!

Kimberlina, bonus points for using "uber". :)

More thoughts:

To the OP, right now the Alaskan rates are very close to the SW rates going into SNA, and they have MORE flights. Like I said, I'm splitting my trip. Might have just gone with Alaskan since they probably have more flights on the way down, too, but I have some money sitting in ticketless travel funds and wanted to use the bulk of it.

Sorry you had such an experience that you boycott them! This flight on Alaskan will be the first non-Southwest flight in probably 10 years. I'm scared to fly on anything but SW! :rotfl:
