What is a fanny pack?

Ok, obviously I know what a fanny pack is:lmao:, but what is it considered when flying:confused3? I have a small (10" long x 7.5" high x 3" deep) Eddie Bauer waistpack. It isn't one of those "hiking packs" or anything. It is small enough that when fully-loaded, I can still wear it in my lap on the roller coasters and completely engage the safety bar over top of it. My question is, if I am wearing it when I board the plane, it it considered part of my attire or is it luggage? I would have no need to remove and stow it since it is so small. I plan to have my phone, iPod, Kindle, wallet, ear planes, headphones and pills stored in it so I would want to keep it handy.

I would consider it like a purse. I doubt they'd want you to leave it on, but it sounds like it could easily go in the seatback pocket for ease in reaching stuff.

If you want to bring a purse, too, and your purse is large...put it in your purse while getting on board. :) (I put my purse in my small carryon that goes under the seat in front of me, personally, and then my bigger carryon goes overhead)

I would consider it a personal item like a purse. You may not be able to keep it on because it would interfere with the seatbelt. If you are fitting all those items in it, it can't be that small (a kindle fits?).

Sounds like you have a big fanny.......pack. :lmao:

Your fanny pack is not part of your attire, it is a personal item, just like a purse or backpack. You will need to take it off and put it under the seat in front of you on the plane, because, as already stated, it will interfere with the seatbelt. Of course, I'm sure you know it comes off at security as well.

It must be a big fanny pack if it will hold a Kindle!

Here's a picture of my purse, fanny pack and Kindle...with a 16.9oz bottle of water for comparison....

We are flying AT and doing the BC upgrade for the trip to Orlando. I will be checking my 19" rolling carry-on and using my backpack as my carry-on item. On the way home, I'm not doing the upgrade so my backpack will be my personal item and my rolling carry-on will be my carry-on. My purse will go in the rolling carry-on for the trip home which is why I was wondering about wearing the fanny pack. I can always put it in my backpack, but it would definitely be more convenient to have the items handy. I could always wear my coat and put all the stuff in my pockets:lmao:.

Thanks for all the info. I will plan on tucking my fanny pack into my backpack and keeping my accessories accessible:thumbsup2.

FYI I wear TWO fanny packs when I fly. Both on my belly with one to the right side, the other towards the left. I have never counted them as any part of my allowable carry-on limit. I have NEVER been questioned about them, either. I always move right along with my little rolling carry-on and usually a small tote with snacks. HTH :thumbsup2

I'm guessing the OP's question is because she plans to have 2 carry ons and then the fanny pack? Is worried about going over the "limit" of carryon? Yes, I have been asked at security to show that my 3 bags I had could be condensed to 2. They actually made me do it, even though it was so obvious my little cross body bag would fit into my computer bag (I had a pilot roll on as well). So, i'd make sure you can do that to show them.

My relatives from England always chuckle at that term. From Tripadvisor...

The "F" word! Fanny, that is. In the UK, this is a word used for the female genitals. The English equivalant for fanny is "bum" (fanny packs being called bum bags).

Yes, this is exactly my concern. My backpack is a rolling backpack and it does fit under the seat, but it is a little bigger than a student backpack. I was planning on carrying my purse and wearing the waistpack, in addition to the backpack, on my way to WDW. On the way home, my rolling carryon will have a lot more room in it (using it for food and "disposable" items on the way down) so I will be able to pack my purse in it. I'd still like to wear the waistpack, though, so that I can keep my wallet, iPod, phone and Kindle handy. If I have to remove the waistpack and tuck it into my backpack, it shouldn't be a problem.

I just bought a netbook so that will free up a lot of room in my backpack. I used to haul my laptop and the new netbook is so much smaller and lighter.
