What is a boiled peanut?

I miss boiled peanuts. They don't have them here.

We love boiled peanuts. It is a very healthy snack. You must eat them warm for them to be good. Personally I do not like mine mushy but rather on the firm side. The salt/water ratio must be just right..compare it to seawater or just slightly more saltier. The shells turn dark brown and are very tender to open. You eat them right out of the shell and can suck the juice also.

If you do try to boil your own just note you neet to start with green (raw) peanuts and it takes awhile before they are ready. Usually you will see reg boiled peanuts and hot as in spicy boiled peanuts. Im not sure if they use hot peppers or what to make them spicey hot but I prefer reg. boiled peanuts. The flavor is nothing like roasted peanuts or peanut butter but more like a bean.

Actually I perfer mine cold!:) I will eat them hot, but I like to put them in the fridge for while and let them cool down. A great cool snack in the summer heat.;)

A co-worker brought in a bag of boiled peanuts a friend had brought up from the south while visiting Alaska. The co-worker brought them into work to try to give them away to anyone who would take them. We all thought they were horrible, they tasted like raw peanut beans. Thanks to this board I now know that we probably were meant to boil them. It seems so obvious now but these were not mushy at all and tasted horrible we thought they had already been boiled. I think she finally threw them away. Those bags should come with instructions. :rotfl2:

FWIW, they taste nothing like beans to me. I don't eat beans, YUCK!
