Can anyone advise on how to pick my travel insurance? There are so many providers out there - I just need a basic cover, ensuring if we're stuck due to weather etc then we can claim back expenses.

Thanks in advance! :goodvibes

You're not necessarily covered, I'm currently trying to work out the same thing. Checked with my insurance and they state they 'do not cover adverse weather' .... several other policies I've looked at have also stated this so I'm getting a bit confused as what to do for the best :confused3

It's very confusing isn't it? Even more so by the comparison sites now - so many options and companies, no idea where to turn!!!

The insurance offered by our health insurance provider turned out very reasonable and covers adverse weather etc with some conditions.

Good luck trawling through the options - there are just so many!

It's very difficult, isn't it, as there's so many to choose from. We've always used M&S as I've always found them so helpful and easy to deal with. We have an annual policy with them and this covers us for independent travel including cruises (not all independent travel policies actually include cruising), they cover my medical condition for no extra cost and my DD's for a small extra premium, and I was pleased to see that they were one of the companies who paid out promptly over the ash cloud claims last year. I think they're competitively priced and, although I'm sure I could probably get it cheaper, I'd worry that there may be problems if I needed to claim so stick with them for peace of mind.

We have post office annual policy, adverse weather covered, when our flight was cancelled at end of Nov, it would have paid the cost of disney accom less £50 excess each as Easy jet couldn't offer a flight within 12 hours. (disney let us transfer the booking)

When our flight home was cancelled in Dec it would have paid something rubbish like £20 each for each 12 hours of delay, however, we booked a same day flight with a differerent airline so we could get home and the cost of that was not covered at all.

MIL has a debenhams policy and its pretty much the same.

Good luck trawling the small print......
