What if your room isn't ready, AND you've visted Publix?

My family was thinking of using Sunray Transportation from the airport to BWV for $72 round trip and adding in an additional $10 for a 30 minute stop at Publix to shop, but since we plan on getting down to Orlando at 10:30 in the morning, I'm betting the room isn't going to be ready when we arrive...That, we're thinking, is gonna cut down on the Ice cream purchases :p , and any other stuff that needs refrigeration. Unless, that is, you well seasoned savers can tell me how I can keep the groceries cold before the room is ready...

I know they'll gladly store our luggage, but when I show up and say "Hi. Got a spare freezer for my Ice Cream?" They may balk.

So, what do you all think?

And thanks in advance!::MickeyMo

Addressing keeping the ice cream cold, many of the Publix stores sell dry ice. A cooler and some dry ice could be a solution. Just call the Publix that you will be using to see if they carry dry ice. Here is the Publix link: http://store.publix.com/publix/cgi/selection?mapid=US&place=kissimmee&region=FL,US&zip=&x=45&y=7
Also, ice inside zip lock bags helps for the other refrigeration-needed items.

I'd call the front desk to ask, but I do know that they have a freezer at Fort Wilderness just for groceries. So maybe you'll be in luck!

Separate your groceries so that all the cold stuff is in one or two bags. They will then store that stuff in a refrigerated area for you. I have never done frozen stuff but have had no problem with milk, deli meat etc.

All of the DVC resorts (BWV, BCV, BWL, OKW, SSR) have facilities to keep groceries cold.

As momsully already posted, make sure you put the things that need to be cold in separate bags and be sure to tell Bell Services which bags need refrigeration.

I'm not sure about frozen goods, either, so my advice is to buy the ice cream at the General Store on the Boardwalk after you get into your room. Better to spend a few pennies more than to have it "liquify" on you, LOL!

Best wishes -

P.S. Wouln't you rather have Mickey bars, anyway? :teeth:

Thanks guys for the quick response as usual. I also confirmed that the refrigerator and freezer are available for keeping things cold and/or frozen. LOL. Ice Cream was my extreme example. I figured if I used that as an example, and was able to get a positive response, I wouldn't have a problem with the frozen pizzas, which are the real target of my quest.

Really, this all boils down to my wife and I enjoying a night out at a restaurant that the kids don't appreciate, so instead of dragging them along, they stay in the room with a video, and pizza, and they are in heaven, while we enjoy a taste of the good life at an upscale restaurant...using coupons and any available discounts, of course. :p ... The walkie talkies keep us in touch too!

How big are the refrigerators at Riverside? Are they dorm-size or the smaller one (about 1/2 dorm-size)? This would help to know so I know what kind of things will fit in the fridge! TIA!
