What if you used more than $1,000 on a Disney Gift Card?

Just occurred to me that if I get a refund, it will come back on the method of payment (i.e. Disney Gift Cards), and I'm pretty sure that as I made payments, I at least one time got some packs of $50 and $100 gift cards and added them to my 'active' gift card which had already been used to make a payment.

So........

If I made $1,000 of payments on a gift card for the cruise, and I then loaded another $1,000 of value on that gift card and made another payment to DCL on it, will they refund $2,000 on that gift card? (Basically, is the $1,000 cap on the gift card a www.disneygiftcard.com limit and DCL can put any amount they want on it, or is it a hard limit on gift card amount?)

Anyone have experience with getting refunds on a Disney Gift Card where you used it multiple times and charged over $1,000 on it?

Thanks!

This is not answering your specific question but someone told me they will send you new GCs if you don’t have the originals. I know that’s not your problem but If they won’t load beyond $1,000, maybe that’s a solution.

Got my original put up safe. I always load all my gift cards onto it and then pay. But if I were to cancel they couldn't load it all back onto that same gift card?

I know this doesn't help, but I only load a card to 1000 once, and then load a different one. I keep a file of all loaded gift cards should something like that happen. I hope you get a good resolution and look forward to hearing what it is.

I should have known this. Ugghhh. I will do the same. I do have my cruised booked with like $1800 on that one gift card, now I am concerned. How did I not know this, I am a pro at Disney, or so I thought. :headache:

I do the same. If you or someone else does this and receives a refund, please report back how it's handled. Thanks

I have received a refund from Disney in the form of a new gift card with over $1000 on it. I can't remember why or what exactly it was for, but they sent me two fresh digital cards to my email and each had over $1000 on it. I think one had like $1300 and the other was around $1200 or something.

I am going to even out the one I have with 2,000 on it and then I will start new ones. Not putting over 1,000 on them. Man, I should have known this.

I put a Mediterranean cruise for 6 on GC. I have everything. Carefully transferred $50s and $100s into multiple $1000 GC. Yuck.

Except for our deposit, our whole trip in April is on GC's..... Thankfully our TA told us to hang onto them all. Hopefully I didn't put more than $1000 on any of them.

Exactly and I thought I was doing great by putting up that one gift card in a safe place, which I am, but now I will need several more most likely.

No. I received all but $200 back on a card that I spent $1200 on. I ended up buying another $25 gift card so I could make room on the card I spent $1200 on. I received the $200 back the next day once it had room on it. I have also heard that Disney may issue new cards too but not sure how long that would take.

Well I got one with, well has 2,000 worth on it. It is on my cruise reservation. Now I will start a new Primary card. I am hoping that I won't have to cancel our cruise next year but you never know. Right now you can't even buy a physical Disney gift card on Shop Disney. Strange, just strange.

What a good question, I never thought of that. I am currently putting everything on 1 primary card for my Aulani stay, which is hopefully in July. I think I'm going to stop that now and do individuals of 1000.

I recently got a refund on my credit card for incidentals. I also have 16 $50 gift cards that were suppose to be refunded, but have not. Has anyone else had to wait longer for refunds on gift cards?

Wouldn't hey just issue you new gift cards?
Typically, refunds are paid back to the method of payment. If you pay with a gift card, the refund goes back on the gift card. That's why it's a good idea to keep hold of them until you're sure you've spent all the credit.

And they pay them back in reverse order of applying them to your account. (Last card used to put on the account is paid back first, and so on).

Keep your gift cards and make a note on each one how and when you used it. Credits are made (or have been in the past) directly back to the actual gift card you used. You can still buy Disney GC's at grocery stores. I bought a big amount two days ago and paid off my MF's as I get a hefty cash back with a specific credit card.

I feel your pain. I am so sick of using Disney gift cards. I got into it for some slight savings, originally had them neatly labelled by which trip I'd attach them to, but due to unforseen trip changes, I now have them scattered over multiple trips that I have booked over the next year. After those trips are done, I'll never use gift cards for trip booking again. So ready to be done with them and just know that all refunds will go straight to my credit card.
