What if you renew your AP before it expires?

Is it true there is some discount or something if you renew before it expires? Mine expires 3 days after the last day of my next trip, but then I don't know when I am going back again, so I don't know if I should renew, or just re-buy when I go again (this is what I have done in the past)!

I believe it is a $20 discount if you renew early.
