What if whole party does not show up?

As the officail trip planner I try to make ADRs that are fun for DD (3yrs) and offer the most variety of "good" food. To say the least my mother in law can be a bit fussy at times and we have told her and father in law. That at any time they do not like what we (me) have planned that they should feel free to go and do what they like. No to the question. I made all of my ADRs for a party of five. What happens if I go to check in and it becomes a party of three? Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks.

Yes, happened to me in April. My sister & brother in law decided not to join us for a few of the meals. There was no problem, we just let the CM know when we checked in that our party was now 4 instead of 6. If you know ahead of time it might be nice to call and let them know, but we had no problem letting them know at the time we actually showed up.

Remember, you don't actually have a reservation (they are not "holding" a table waiting for you). You just go on a list and get the next available table for your party size.

This hasn't happened to us, but we heard something about it at CP. They let everyone know that if you had checked in and they called your name, if your whole party wasn't there, you would lose the reservation. Now, I'm not sure this would happen if you let them know at check in that you now had 3 instead of 5. I'm assuming they were trying to prevent seating one person for a party when the rest of the party wouldn't show up for 10 minutes or so. They wanted the whole party that was going to be eating to be there and ready when they called your name. Mind you, they weren't rude about it..very nice and Disney about letting everyone know! :wizard:

It's not a problem at all. You just tell the Cast Member when you check in that your party is reduced. You don't have to have everyone there if their plans changed. To go from a party of five to a party of three might be a good thing. Relax and enjoy the trip.

You can always find a couple that would like to eat at that location who do not have an ADR and then "adopt" them and allow them to join you at the table. Separate check, of course, and you might meet some interesting people (who will be grateful for an opportunity to eat).

:rotfl2: Talk about spreading the magic! What do you think their initial reaction would be? Would be cool to do though.
