Ok.....I am thinking about a last minute change to our plans. We currently have resi's at the ramada inn maingate for the King Jacuzzi suite. We just saw that the Holiday Inn express maingate also has a jacuzzi suite for the same price. It is just my husband and myself this trip as it is our anniversary. We really wanted a room with a jacuzzi in it. The Ramada said their jacuzzi is in the bath room and the comfort inn is pictured with it in the room. The comort inn also looks like it has a better breakfast then the Ramada. The comfort inn looks like it is a longer walk though......What would you do?????Thanks :)

Did you take a look at the reviews on tripadvisor? Also, do you know the sizes of the rooms?

I would check tripadvisor and any other site that lets people review hotels. I never book anywhere without checking reviews FIRST!

Trip advisor has the comfort inn express rated 24 higher then the ramada inn maingate rated 33 ??????

Mo3bys - did some digging on tripadvisor for you. Even though the Comfort Inn seems to be rated slightly slower than Ramada Maingate, I noticed that a manager is monitoring the tripadvisor responses. This means that they are taking complaints seriously. Also, the motel got new furniture in March. I would try to contact this manager, Jefferson Kim, and explain that it is a special celebration.

Sorry i meant the holiday inn Express (On Katella)......my brain is frazled :)

Yeah - I just re-read your post and couldn't figure out which hotel you were talking about! :lmao: Okay, now that I see the reviews on Holiday Inn Express it seems the better bet. Many comments about how kids could even do the walk to and from DL.

i take the reviews with a grain of salt. sorry but how many times have you stayed at a hotel and not given a review. heck i have never and didn't know you could. i am booked at the ramada in nov will be the second time in the last 6 years we have stayed there(we go every 2 years and last trip they where booked) i'm not a big hotel user i just need a bed to crash. but i will say the staff was nice and pleasant, rooms where clean and there bathrooms sparkled. the pool was nice and the hot tub even nicer. breakfast was a little lacking but after staying at another hotel last trip i feel it was on par comparied to that hotel. it's not a bad walk either.

regarding reviews, I always figure most people go out of their way to leave reviews when they have had a bad experience. I think most people complain when something goes wrong. Therefore, I figure if a hotel has tons of great reviews... awesome! It must have been really great if people went out of their way to say something good! If they have tons of bad reviews, I won't stay there.

However, recently... I went against what the reviews said. I booked a room in Eureka CA which got fairly poor reviews. We had stayed there 10 years ago and liked it, so we figured it would be fine. We were wrong. Everything that the reviewers said... came true and then some! There was an all night part that the manager refused to do anything about and we were up all night long. I was minutes away from calling the police (as the night manager stopped answering the phone) when the party broke up. We left a night early... and you better believe I posted a negative review about it online!

I will never make that mistake again! Only hotels with good reviews for me thanks:)

One thing to keep in mind when consulting tripadvisor, is to check the number of reviews. The higher the number, the more accurate the overall rating is likely to be. Also, the ones where management responds shows that the hotel cares about customer service. When we visited the Courtyard in Puerto Rico I had e-mailed the manager prior to our stay. He greet us personally upon our arrival, escorted us to an ocean front room (we had booked standard ocean view), and treated us to a bottle of wine with some goodies!

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all your help :)
I always make plans then worry that they 'could be better' :)

I booked a room in Eureka CA

You were up in my neck of the woods :) Where did you stay?
I am so sorry you had a bad experience. There are some bad hotels in Eureka now.

The Super 8! We left and stayed at a great HOJO in Arcata. We only live 2 hours north of Eureka on the coast... so we must be neighbors;) We went to Eureka to be apart of civilization for a while, there is a Target and a mall!
