What have you done lately?

We also switched to a water efficient shower head about a month ago so we shall see if it makes a difference when we get the new water bill next month.

This should help your water heating costs too, since your using less water then there's less water that needs to be heated.

To those who canceled your land, line how do you get internet???? I would love to do this.

Took the cable down a tier to just the basics. Made a BIG difference. (around $50 a month saved)

Adjusted the thermostat - HUGE difference. As long as I'm comfortable, I have no problem with the A/C or heat being off. HOWEVER! I will not sweat or be cold in my own home. I will use space heaters or fans first. If those dont' work, the air or heat will go on! (around 40$ a month saved.)

Oh, yeah - the 'no landline' thing.

The March Reader's Digest had a special article titled "50 Things Your ER Doctor Won't Tell You".

One of them is something to the effect of, "Emergency Services can pinpoint your location instantly on a landline. If you call from a cell phone, [they] waste time asking questions to try to determine where you are or spend extra time trying to find you".

I got a Kilawatt measuring thing for $17, I'm slowly working through all the appliances to see what we can change. Just started, need "proof" for hubbie to cooperate with turning things off!

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to get rid of the satellite, but DH says NO NO NO, it and our internet are our only "non essentials" but I need the internet, see below for saving:laughing:. I do have a land line, but DH work pays for his cell, so I need something at home, still cheaper than our own cell. I'd do a buy as go if I didn't have a sister I talk to several times a week usually for an hour or so :rotfl:

We changed our lights to CFL's but really haven't seen a difference, however that may be timing, as we did it at the same time electric bills went up 30% here in PA.

Biggest thing we save is only cooking at home. Those dinners out add up so much.

No more Disney trips :sad1: But camping instead.

Internet shopping/price checking. I am always amazed at what friends/family pay for things when I know I've seen them on line or sales for much less!

I turned the heat down and used our fireplace instead. Our heating bill was down by $100! I was so excited until my DH pointed out that we spent $100 in wood!:sad2:

Each state is different in how they are handing out funds. Many states started in Feb.

Kentucky is holding off until April 22. My washer is in the process of dying, so I hope it holds out until then.

You will spend a little more upfront, but the high efficiency appliances will pay for themselves in the long run.

Now that spring is coming, I'm hanging laundry up to dry more. I hang a lot anyway inside year round, but jeans take FOREVER to dry inside on a rainy day!

Can anyone suggest a great drying rack? Ours is kinda light weight and wimpy.

We switched to the $19.99 a month phone service with the cable company and saved about $40 a month. I went from farmers insurance to state farm, and while homeowners is the same I saved $60 a month on auto insurance for 2 vehicles.

Not sure where you live. We are outside of Chicago. Our former land line phone service was from AT&T, and we had DSL internet from them as well. Now, they have a service that they call "Dry Loop" and it is basically internet with out a home phone. The only reason I still had my land line was for internet. As soon as I heard this was available, I called to set it up. Good luck and I hope you can find a provider in your area!

Started buying and brewing my own Dunkin' Donuts flavored coffee from BJ's Wholesales, instead of stopping and buying every morning.:surfweb:

How much is a pound at BJs? They have a 60 day free trial coupon out there I might redeem if I can convince myself I'll save $ and not spend hundreds like I used to with Costco.
----

I called Comcast last week and asked about any promos I might be able to take advantage of. Right now I'm paying $107 for cable (not premium, but does include Nick & Disney) and Internet. They told me I was out of luck unless I switched to a lower speed - which I can't do as I'm a wfh programmer.
