What has happened to the Dole Whip???

Katiebell is correct....

As far as the consistency issue, there are a few things that could cause it to be softer....

1. if it were purchased early in the day
2. if it were a new batch
3. the temperature/humidity outside

I always have the Dole Whip mix on hand here at home (in several flavors).....YUM!

Where the heck can you buy Dole Whip mix retail? And can you freeze it properly without a soft-serve machine (i.e. in a standard freezer)?

My experience was similiar to the OP.

Taking the advice of many Disers we had to have a Dole Whip. I had the cup, my hubby had the float, my kiddos had ice cream.

There ice cream was fine - consistency of soft serve. Our Dole Whips (cup & float) were too soft. They were melting before we could even sit down. I kept having to lick the sides of the cup while paying.

It didn't live up to the hype and pineapple is my favorite fruit!

Although, I am going to give it another try again in September. ;)

I order it from a company in Hawaii....

Believe it or not, I actually bought a special ice cream makee just to make dole whips.....

We normally make smaller batches that are long gone before they would ever make it to the freezer, but when we have frozen it, it does get a little hard......But still yummy & great with pineapple juice & rum!

I am so glad I came upon this thread. I thought I was the only one who noticed the difference. My family goes to WDW several times a year and we always stop for Dole Whip. Our last visit was at Christmas and we all commented on the smaller size and different taste. At first we thought they did not give us what we ordered. Based on those who say the soft serve may not have been mixed properly, I guess we will give it another try.

I guess I will have to see about the change in 2 weeks :cool1:. Dole Whips are an absolute must for (at least me) when we go, the kids and hubby like the traditional chocolate/vanilla swirl.

Katiebell--you are right about Dole whips being all over the country. Last summer we were at our State Fair and they had the Dole whip, but they didn't call it that, just a pineapple ice cream....it tasted just like the Dole Whips though, I was soooo excited. Now I know of one more place that sells them besides Disney and I don't have to drive 21 hours for it either :goodvibes

I would say the portion size has gotten smaller simce the introduction of the DDP, Sorry but thats when repeat visitors started commenting on the the size getting smaller. As well as the Smores at PTC. What is nice about the Food Prorn thread is that you can see how all the sizes got smaller.

Another thought may be the recipe has changed since WDW is going Trans fat free and that partially hydrogenated oil is a no-no.

I had my first Dole whip float this past May, having heard about them on the Dis. I wasn't disappointed! Yummy and refreshing. Can't say if it's changed though.

I don't think I can ever order another one after seeing that ingredient list. OMG, that's horrible!

:scared: Blah, I don't like Dole Whips at all. I love fresh pineapple, but I can't stand that stuff!

However, I ALWAYS get and I LOVE the Strawberry Swirl from Enchanted Grove in MK... MMMMM-MMM!!! :thumbsup2

OH I can't wait to have one in MK. I am staying at the Poly and I understand I can get it there too! OOOOOO I'm excited! :yay:

Yes, similar, except for all the artificial ingredients in the "real" thing! Your version sounds much better!

Yeah, I know the ingredients look pretty bad. But then...probably best not to read the label on Cool Whip, Coffee Mate, or many other every day products we eat...even if you are like our family and try to buy more whole foods, you still eat these things in restaurants all the time.

Enfamil Baby Formula Ingredient List: Reduced Minerals Whey, Nonfat Milk, Vegetable Oil (Palm Olein, Soy, Coconut and High Oleic Sunflower Oils), Lactose, And Less Than 1%: Mortierella Alpina Oil (A source of Arachidonic acid-ARA), Crypthecodinium Cohni Oil (A source of Docosahexaenoic Acid-DHA), Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin D3, Vitamin E Acetate, Vitamin K1, Thiamin Hydrochloride, Vitamin B6 Hydrochloride, Vitamin B12, Niacinamide, Folic Acid, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Sodium Ascorbate, Inositol, Calcium Chloride, Calcium Phosphate, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate, Cupric Sulfate, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Citrate, Potassium Citrate, Potassium Hydroxide, Sodium Selenite, Taurine, Nucleotides (Adenosine 5'-Monophosphate, Cytidine 5'-Monophosphate, Disodium Guanosine 5'-Monophosphate, Disodium Uridine 5'-Monophosphate)

Fortunately, a lot of those chemicals are vitamins

Basically...Dole Whip...hmmm...

Well, it has natural flavors in it. Otherwise, it's kind of like a bowl of soft serve Cool Whip. Real pineapple ice cream would be better, but it's actually pretty tasty. The good news is it's pretty much fat-free and very low in calories -- 80 per half cup, I think. I eat it at DL because it just wouldn't be the Tiki Room without at Dole Whip Float. And at least the pineapple juice is real! :goodvibes

I know, you're right. And I can never resist a Carvel soft serve ice cream, so who am I to worry!
