What has Disney removed that makes you the saddest?

Gosh, so much more to miss. I remember hearing that every night Disney would repaint or touch up the horse hitches on Main Street, as well as clean up everything else. That other surfaces were also repaired and inspected nightly or at least weekly for wear and tear, that AAs hair was restyled, etc. But now Disney seems to treat their AAs like red haired stepkids.
There just seems to be less attention to detail and a "ditch it if it doesn't work" attitude.

Ex:
Lack of bubbles and water in Busby Burkley scene at gmr, plus no more fire in cowboy.
Missing Cleopatra doll in IASW. Her blinking eye wasn't working very well, I don't know if she went in for maintenance or has gone for good.
Grand Floridian's Cage elevator. Last time I was there (Apr 2014), it had the sloppiest paint job I've every seen! The interior needed to be sanded down and completely repainted. I could have done a better job, and I am in no way a professional. I was ashamed - THIS is their FLAGSHIP resort, and they are ok with this crappy paint job? Such a small thing, but the attention to detail is so important.
Oh, and I am glad that they brought back
MSEP. Spectros clowns freaked me out! ;)

My husband misses Alien Encounter, but he and I agree that the ride never belonged at MK - Disney should have put it into HS. I do like having 2 Dumbos, but it does make it feel less like Dumbo and more like a herd of flying elephants.

I wish that the Bugsby Berkley girls still rotated. When did they get rid of the fire in the cowboy scene, though? When I was there in January, it was still going, though the car in the gangster scene no longer drives up. It just sits there.

I really think the one thing that is no longer that makes me the saddest is

the spontaneity of meeting the characters. There was never the pressure to see a character, stand in a 500 minute  line to see a princess. You would walk around the corner and BAM, there was Pluto!! or Pinocchio!!! DD would ask, who do you think we will see today??? The answer was always, "You never know who you'll meet!!"

DD's first trip at 2 1/2, she loved each and every character. She was happy hugging whoever she ran into, walk up to the kiosks they had at the time with all the miniature "guys" (characters) you could purchase and she literally would stand there for how ever long it took to hug each and every one. It still is our fondest memory and hers as well.

Last trip, her BFF from college was "knew" Rapunzel so we got to go in the back way. We all could not help but be dumfounded by all the folks waiting how ever long, laying on the floor looking absolutely miserable for having to wait probably a very, very long time in a very dark hallway. DD said a quick hi to Rapunzel and we scurried away, leaving behind a bunch of frustrated guests.

It really made me sad.

Good thread. I'm apt to reminisce and this is a good opportunity to do so.

I most miss the seemingly dwindling number of experiences that make the park feel personally mine. This is probably mostly due to the increased crowds and the recasting of park space to handle those crowds. And maybe it has to do with the increased pace of life and my longing for a time when things just went by at a more deliberate pace. Here are two cherished examples.

I remember enjoying a family meal sitting at an outdoor table in the Adventureland Veranda situated right next to the canal looking up at the entrance bridge. Tropical vegetation seemed to engulf us and provide shade. The food was exotic and delicious. It felt as if we were in a private setting made just for us. We could look out and up through the vegetation, and hear and see people crossing the bridge but they were just there for our entertainment if we decided to pay any attention to them.

I remember visiting Tom Sawyer Island with very excited little boys who ran and explored and fired the air rifles at the boats and the air would make the tree branches and leaves move. And afterward, I remember getting brown bag lunches and Lemonade at Aunt Polly's with a homemade PB&J sandwich, an apple and a huge cookie! We leisurely sat and watched as the world went by, playing checkers if the mood came upon us.

I very much miss those kind of accidentally wonderful experiences. I think they are still there but it just seems as if they are much harder to come by these days.

I sure do remember this--not the Broadway at the Top show (we never went to that), but before that when it was an actual "nightclub". We saw Billy Eckstine entertain on our one and only visit.

My parents went to see Barbara Eden perform at Top of the World and they hired us a "Disney babysitter". Turns out she was a young woman who, during the day, was "friends" with Alice.

The Sunday Brunch was world's apart from today's buffets. It was elegant and pricey. Much like you might find at a high end hotel today. Make your own omelets, waffles, shrimp, crab, carving stations for roasts. Disney needs a high end buffet like this once a week.

Rarely we can still find characters with short lines now, but I agree- they are rare, and missed. I liked when they hid in nooks in Epcot, and nobody knew.

"If You Had Wings..."

The Imagination Pavilion. Not just the original ride, but all the fun post-ride stuff. With all the cool technology that's come out in the last few years, that pavilion could be so much fun! if WDW cared (to update it).

Likewise, there's used to be some fun things in the Wonders of Life Pavillion. It was kind of like a children's science museum. That's the part I miss.

I like what they did to the Land food court, but I do miss the old veggie lasagna and Mickey pasta!

I know I already posted, but reading the responses made me remember one more: I miss the Engel Puppen dolls in the Germany pavilion. My parents usually allowed me to create my own doll as a souvenir of the trip. It is not Disney’s fault that this no longer exists (I heard that the doll maker passed away), but I still wish it was there.

The old Delta Dream Flight ride. I loved that!

I also miss the "slow season" it seems there is no more slow time!

Buy 4 get 3 free promo years ago
Apps and tip included in dining plan
Mickey n minnies house
Snow whites scary adventures

I also miss tge pricing. Disney vacations have become much more expensive

Horizons
Being able to ride in the front monorail cab
The OLD Mr. Tom Morrow line on People Mover
Jeremy Irons doing the narration for Spaceship Earth
Alfredo's in the Italy Pavilion
The original mural/display outside the Living Seas pavilion.

Many things come to mind. The original Imagination ride and play area, the Hunchback stage show, the entire Wonders of Life pavilion, Tangaroa Terrace and Bonfamille's, Comedy Warehouse, to name a few. And I will seriously miss staying in my favorite longhouses at the Poly (my favorite resort), at least with an option for 2 beds in the room and a great theme park view.

That said, far and away the thing I miss the most is the Adventurer's Club. That was the best attraction at WDW! So creative, and unlike anything else. Why, Disney, why? So many good times there. I'm still unreasonably sad about it 6 years later. :(

Yessss!! Delta Dream flight!!
Mr. Toad and Snow White
And I haven't been back yet since it's been gone, but I'm really sad about Toon Town

Toontown (recently went to the one in Disneyland and it made me realize how much this is missed at WDW), 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (again, got to do it at DLR with my kids and they loved it!), and Mr. Toad. But the thing I really miss is a small thing - when I was a child I used to love getting fresh Florida OJ at WDW because it came in orange plastic cups that were shaped like an orange and had a green straw. I heard a rumor they were bringing this back (along with Orange Bird) but I did not see them on our March trip.

Off topic, but I just bought one a cup that sounds similar at a flea market. Do you remember if the cup had a green top and Mickey's face on the side of it?

I miss Brian the magic guy. He was usually at the Boardwalk, but we have seen him at DTD as well. He was so entertaining and really added to the magical atmosphere of Disney. So sad he is no longer part of the Boardwalks crew of entertainers.

We miss Brian too!! Brian and his wife became good friends of ours over the years of visiting the Boardwalk. Our trips are not the same without seeing him. Unfortunately, he was apart of the entertainment cutbacks. :furious:

Can someone answer this?
Why are there entertainment cutbacks when Disney is making enormous profits, historically high stock price and billions and billions with parks at historically full capacity?????
You don't want to here my answer..but I'd love to hear yours!

One word.....GREED!!! Why keep long-term entertainers employed?? Brian for example was there for years, and I'm sure he was getting paid well. Why not replace him with a new, less talented person who they can pay a minimum salary. People will still flock to the Boardwalk, resorts, and parks anyways! Same thing goes for PUSH.
