What happens when Use year begins/ends while I'm at Disney?

Hi Everyone....

I've only had the DVC for about a year now, so I'm not 100% clear on all the rules.

My use year begins in June (so that means the first of June)... and I'd like to go to Disney in '04 around the end of May/beginning of June. We'd probably be there from like May 28th- June 5th.

So, I am a bit confused how all this would work. I would have 12 banked points from last year (which expire at the end of May 04)... I would have my 160 points from this current year... and then I might want to borrow some points from the next year.

Let's say we need 250 points for the accomadations we want... how would all this work. If I make the reservations 7 months ahead.... can I use my 160 points even into the next use year?

This is a little confusing to explain... but I hope someone can shed some light on my own confusion :)

thanks,
KEVIN

Assuming you would not be banking or borrowing points, you would actually be using two different use year points.

You would be using your 2003 use year (plus 2002 banked) points for the May portion of next year's trip. You would be using 2004 use year points for the June portion.

Of course, if you have the points available, you could bank some of your 2003 points to cover the June portion of the trip.

Thanks for the replies... I think I understand now.

I read that thread and the person has the same problem I do, but I now understand how to handle it.

One more thing :)

Does Disney send you anything reminding you that you go more points... like a yearly balance of some kind? Or do I just assume my new points are now in my account.

Thanks,
KEV

Keep carefuly track yourself of your points. Statements can be "requested" but are never sent. I am a real pain....I end each call to MS by verifying my point totals. (I have 2 home resorts and sometimes have used next years points before finishing this years points).

Good luck
Sandy

I'll second what InstImpres said....I always ask MS for a point balance with every call I make.

If you bank points, you should get the confirmation number from the CM, because they won't send you any paper confirming that you banked the points.

Every time I've called, MS has been very happy to confirm my point balances for the various use years that have been affected.

For the past several months, the CMs have reviewed my current point balance at the end of every reservation. They seem to be doing this automatically, at least with me.

Keep very careful track of your points. They do not send statements or confirmations of banking and borrowing. You can request a "point history" but it will detail every transaction you've made from the day you purchased..broken out by contract and add-on contract. It can be confusing to follow, especially if you don't have your own records as a basis of comparison.
