What happens to 'performers' when their performance is canceled?

For example the dancers/actors in the parades everyone in fantasmic, Indian jones/light motors action stunt performers...

When their shows get rained out (or otherwise cancelled) at the last minute... What do they do?
Get paid and go home?
Get paid to practice/rehearse?
Get sent out into the parks to do other jobs?
Just have their shift cancelled? (Hopefully not)

I've always wondered... Any insights?

I was actually just thinking about this the other night when I was reading about the AK parade ending in June. Are those people just flat out jobless at that point or do they get reassigned? Just curious.

I read they will all be found other assignments.

I was wondering this about the lifeguards at the waterparks - esp since there are so many days during the winter that the parks close due to cold weather.

they get "show up pay". I think it's 4 hours

They get alternate roles during the off period. One of my friends got sent to the backlot tour for a week to tell people it was down for refurb. There's a million places they can get sent.

Some of them do meet and greets when the show is canceled. We got lucky at the Lion King show one day and it was canceled, so all the people came out and took pictures with the kids and stuff for about 20 minutes.

I think I've read that when something is just over, like the parade will be, that performers are given the opportunity to audition for other roles elsewhere in the park (but it's not guaranteed that they will get something).

If you work in the water park and it goes down you have the choice and priority to move to watercraft/lifegaurding elsewhere. This heavily impacts the part timers of the place you are moving to. lol.

Its my understanding that we are talking about two kinds of CM's here, the "regular" CM's that great you, man the doors and direct you to your seats and the performers. The performers work under Actor's Equity rules.

So when a show ends the performers can either move on or apply, aka audition, for other positions that fall under that heading.

Its much easier for regular CM's to move into other "roles".

As a side note I have read that Tinker Bell gets paid whether or not she flies for any reason including "it just doesn't feel right".

That's how it was explained to us on the KTTK tour. She has the final say on if she flies each night or not.

Ugh...how painful to stand there for an entire shift and tell people that. :crazy2:

Might not be soooooo bad. Sure you get disgruntled guests who are upset about ride closures... But we've had some great interactions with CMs in this position because they have the freedom to stop and chat/answer questions/give advice. Whereas so many other employees are scrambling to keep up with the active parts of their job (ride operators, traffic control for the parades, restaurant servers, etc)

It depends. You'll always have the people that say "but we came all the way from XYZ *JUST* to ride this ride!!!" (yeah, right ... you traveled all the way from Australia *JUST* to ride Earthquake, and there is *NOTHING* else in the park that even slightly interests you? I don't think so) or want to be a butt about it. But some times it's fun. Like when Jaws would shut down due to lightning, we'd bring the grenade launchers out front with us ... people tend to not argue with you when you're toting an impressive looking gun around. :rotfl2:

But its not like you have to sit there and "take it". If there is an issue I would think you would send them to GS where they get paid to hear these gripes.

Also for certain ride groups you may also rotate to another position on a open ride. We have visited when either BTMR or Splash was down for refurb and I would imagine the two CMs came from the other open ride. Its not like you even have to be cross trained on the ride.

As for the interaction yes we had a great conversation on two separate days talking to someone who was the greater for Sunshine seasonings but she also manned a pin board. She was a full time, long time CM and probably told us stuff she shouldn't have. ;)

Upon rereading my post just wanted add that my post was not meant to be snarky. :thumbsup2
