What happens during birthdays at Disney

Do they do anything special for the person having a birthday? WE might be there for my birthday in October so I am just wondering. :cool1:

Well, it depends what you do. If you tell the hotel when you book it that it's your birthday, sometimes they give a card or put balloons in your room and things like that. Unfortunately, for some of us nothing happens. So if you get something, great, but if you don't, don't be disappointed. A lot of us don't get anything, and by the way HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Hope it's magical

If you go to guest relations or the customer service area at the parks, they have a special button to give to the birthday person. I have heard about this at all the parks, and have experienced it at MK.

You can also order a cake ahead of time if you have an ADR. See the post about birthdays under the restaurant thread. Almost all of the table service restarurants also have a free small cupcake or cookie for birthday celebrations.

Have fun!

I just have to add that the last time we were there I was shocked at the number of "Today is my Birthday" or "I am celebrating my Birthday" buttons we saw there. It seems almost every other person was wearing one! They also have buttons saying this is my first trip to WDW and stuff like that. While it would be nice to get lots of extra attention on your birthday, don't count on it. So many people are there for a birthday, anniversary, etc. it just really isn't that big of a deal, unfortunately!

Our kids just wear the birthday buttons and are thrilled -- the CMs say "Happy Birthday" to them throughout the day, and that always brings a smile.

My daughter got some Fast Passes and some trading pins from the CM for her birthday.

The big thing is you may or may not get something. As another poster said, these days it seems like everyone is wearing some sort of button - It's my Birthday - It's my Anniversary - It's my first trip - etc. There is only so much "extra" that Disney can do for everyone. Dd was there for her 8th bd in January and she got a button from concierge in our resort. During the day many CM's wished her a happy birthday - some gave her stickers. We had dinner at Chef Mickey's where it was noted that it was her bd. Minnie came over special to give her a cupcake with a candle - she also got a placemat that had been autogaphed by many of the characters.

If you want to plan something REAL special, then you will need to do it yourself. If you go for a special dinner that night you may want to note that on your reservations.

Have fun! :)

Man - I think my original questions sounds a wee bit pompous.

I guess its more about seeing if traveling around my bday will be worth it. Maybe we should go mid-month in October. Of course if there were extra bday perks - I might be convinced.

I was thinking it would be fun to be at Disney on Halloween itself, but then it seems like the NNSHP might be a wee bit insane. Decisions decisions!
