What happened with the VMK stuff at the pin event

Anyone know what happened with the auction for the VMK pins at the pin event recently. Weren't they supposed to come with VMK cards? I was wondering about that today.

The pins that were released at auction seem to be artist proofs and not the real thing. (Well, they're supposed to be better than the real thing...) The real thing will be released in "Mystery" sets, supposedly in December, and the sets will each contain two random pins and two random cards. That's what I heard. :)

Yes, they were AP's which doesn't mean much to anyone here but there are pin collectors who pay enormous amounts of money for an artist proof pin that is basically a rough draft or prerelease of what is distributed to the public.

I don't remember the exact number but I was at the event and I believe that auction went for at least $1000, maybe more.

Thanks I knew they were jus proofs of the actual pins but wondered how much they went for.

And I wonder if there were VMK cards with the proofs and if there were, what were the prizes?

First of all, see my post entitled Real Pictures of VMK Pins.. also, just to clear this up, when you buy the pins, you will know which you are getting, but you will not know what cards you will be getting.. just thought i'd clear that up :thumbsup2

I was under the impression that the pins and cards would be inside a sealed box so you would not know which two pins or which cards you are buying. That's how the other trading cards/pins were released.

Yes, that is usually how Disney does their mystery pin sets. They have been releasing quite a few of these in the past year, usually in tins where you can receive any of 5-10 different pins with different LE sizes. This is a great money maker for them because some completists will buy as many as they can just to complete a set or get a certain pin...and of course as you mentioned the packages are sealed and non returnable if opened. I have no doubt that the vmk pins/cards will be released in this way.

The VMK pins from the pin event auction went for $375.00. It was just the two pins, no cards.
