What happened to the Freebie threads?

When I came here a few years ago there was always a weekly thread full of freebies. Are they no longer permitted or did the freebies just fizzle out?

I used to belong to the threads too.
I seriously think companies are no longer giving out free samples of their products.
I barely see any advertising on tv. Maybe with the economy, advertising has taking a strong hit and probably one of the first things to go, is their free products.
Bummer-I used to have a quart size bag full of freebies, for vacations.
