I have no idea what happened. I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT, got it in December.

I picked it up today after not using it for a while and notice the focus is all off. It barely auto focuses and through the viewfinder it's very very fuzzy, does not focus at all. However when the picture is actually taken it comes out fine. :confused3

Please help me what's wrong. It's really hard to take pictures of DS when I can't tell if they are in focus or not!!

Does your camera have a tiny round knob next to the view finder? Not sure of the exact name of it... but on my Olympus camera there is one...and if you turn it a little bit, it will change the way things are focused.

Sorry if that doesn't help ya. I tried.

make sure the manual focus switch didn't get switched on by mistake on the lens.

does the little dot to the far right of the viewfinder stay green or does it flicker? if it stays green it means it is focused

that button is for the dioptric adjustment...it could be way off for your eyes, on the rebel it is a thumb dial right of the eyepiece directly behind the eyepiece

1) Make sure that the battery is fully charged.
2) Remove the lens and check the contacts on the lens and camera are clean and not bent or dirty. Maybe just re-seating the lens it may work rite.
3) Do you have another lens you can try to see if maybe it is a bad focus motor in the lens.

This makes me think it's the dioptric adjustment knob out of whack.

So that is what it is called, couldn't think of it!!

Thank you to everyone that said this. You have made my day!! It was way off!! I thought it might have been my eyes or something. I was starting to get really ticked off because I have only had the camera a few months and I was envisioning having to send it to Canon and not having it for my DS's first birthday pictures!!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

This was my first thought too!!! I'd bet that little button was nudged a bit!!

I have one of those knobs on my camera and didn't realize it when it went out of adjustment, I freaked out like you wouldn't believe!
