What happened to Jiko?

We ate there in April and it was good, but not as great as previous visits.

My son really missed the chocolate puzzle dessert. The FUNdue was dull and boring. I could have made it (and have).

I ate at Jiko's on September 17th. When I mentioned to the waiter that I was disappointed that the short ribs was not on the menu the manager came to the table with a pistashio creme brulee, apologized for the ribs and said that maybe this would help with my memories of the old menu. However, the waiter said that the brulee was also off the menu.
I did not see the dessert menu so I'm not absolutely sure but if it is off the menu were did they come up with the pistashio creme brulee?
Even though I had a bad experience with the Fillet I will give Jiko another chance in December. I have had to many good meals there to give up on it after one bad meal.

Too bad he didn't come back with a plate of those short ribs!!!:sad2:
I am so bummed that they are not on the menu anymore.

:grouphug:Maybe if we all mention it while we are there they will consider bringing them back.
OK everyone....there is our mission, whos with me?!?!?!:cheer2:

It's killing me to hear such negativity about Jiko! We ate there on the 24th, and thought it was wonderful. It was our favorite restaurant on our last trip (3 years ago), and we had been dreaming of it ever since! It's not often that a place can live up to that kind of hyped expectations- but it did. In the past, we thought the food was excellent, but the desserts were definitely sub-par. (Last time, everything was about the darn YOAMD pyramid-gross!) Desserts this time were amazing (spice cake and lemon cheesecake)! We had the BBQ chicken flatbread (so good!), DH had the lamb loin, and I had the filet. Everything was prepared very well.
Our server was excellent, telling us the backstory of the wine that we selected, and spreading a little pixie dust by bringing us a complimentary pistachio creme brulee for our anniversary. The only thing I will say is that the experience seemed a little less authentically African, as much of the wait staff was local.
I think we have generally high expectations, and Jiko did meet them- definitely will be going back... give it a try people! =)

Sorry everybody didn't mean to come across as complaining just that I was so dissapointed and surprised. I know what everyone is saying about Jiko. It has always been fabulous for me and the family but like I said we had a bad experience with the quality of the food and I wanted to see if it was just me or if others had similar opinions in the changes in chefs and menu. The waiter also told us there is no longer any signature dishes on the menu.

In all fairness I ate at LeCellier the night before and the Filet was to die for and with an appetizer it was less than my entree at Jiko's.

I agree! We just got back from a trip in September. We ate at Jkio and were VERY disappointed. I had been three years ago and raved about it to my fiance (we are adventurous eaters and love new and differerent flavors). The menu and the flavors had definitely been toned down. We were excited to try the boar, but it was so washed out that it could have been anymeat. Not the jiko I knew and loved. :( Our waitress was less than friendly also.

I wish we had gone to Citricos instead, which has been getting great reviews.
