What happened to all the Pop Century haters?

Pop haters are still here. I know I won't post anything negative about values (Pop or Allstars) because it seems it turns into personal attacks. One thing I like about these boards is reading different opinions. As long as your opinion is that the values are great that seems to be ok.

I have only stayed in a value resort one time (ASSports) and wasn't terribly impressed, no real desire to go back. We usually stay at the Polynesian with our extended family and that will probably always be my favorite resort. We also love Port Orleans (French Quarter) when it's just the 2 of us (king size bed). But we just spent 2 weeks at the Polynesian in November, and just wanted a last minute trip on our still unreplenished vacation budget, our annual passes burning a hole in our fanny packs. We were still undecided because it was really a value resort or none at all, and I was leaning on waiting until the budget was a little bigger. DH convinced me to make the reservation for PC, "just in case" since it was such a wonderful rate. After reading Tyler's thread, and all the wonderful things that he and others wrote, I finally agreed and made the airline reservations on the last day to get the 14 day discount. In no way do I expect it to be the Polynesian, or POFQ, or AKL, or anything other than a Value resort. I expect that it will be cute, and I hope it will have great service, but I understand the differences that you pay for at the different levels of resorts. I still expect to find some Disney magic, after all, that's why we stay on-site rather than "outside". I would really rather stay home than not stay on property. Just my humble opinion.

I agree with sue1013! Plus, I think it's great that we all have our own preferences and opinions...it wouldn't be much fun if we all liked the same things. Maybe a bunch of people will want to switch they're reservations from CBR to Pop so I can have the CBR all to myself for our trip!!

Not good not good. The last time my late husband explained to me what is PHAT means...This is not good! But then again it may means something else from another area.

So what is PHAT means in Disney?

As far as the Pop Resort, I have no comment. I will not judge the book by it's cover.

First off, let me say I love places like the Polynesian and Contemporary, up until this past November we were DVC owners. We have reservations for March at the POP and I'm really excited about going. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and preferences, the thing that gets me is when some people express their opinion by saying it in a way that sounds like it is putting down the people that like the value or moderates (and I'm not saying many of you do this, but there are a few stongly opinionated people on the boards who are like this). For example, why can't someone say, I didn't care for or I didn't like Pop Century because I thought the the buildings were tacky, I felt the rooms were to small for my tastes, I like full amenity resorts better, etc. Instead some people have to force their opinions down your throat by saying things like, you'd have to be an idiot to stay there, or (like those of us that may enjoy the value resorts) insinuate that we are second class citizens for wanting to stay there or we have no taste or class. A friend of my dads who hasn't been to Disney World in over 20 years recently stopped in for a couple of days coming back from a trip from Florida and said they stayed at a really neat resort that just opened, the Pop Century. This man owns his own computer company and is not hurting in the $$$ department, but he seemed to enjoy it there. So for those of you who don't care for the value resorts, off property, anywhere but Old Key West (Richyams you know you're out there) whatever your preferences may be - that's wonderful, that's what makes the world go round-just try not to make the rest of us feel like second rate citizens for enjoying otherwise.

As the cliche goes, don't judge a book by its cover... Most of the people I've talked to have tended to change thier views once they actually got into the resort, and were immersed in the trip down memory lane.
Tyler, I'm sure it's a nice place to stay. I'm not judging it as a resort. It's the execution of the theming that makes me think "Gag me with a spoon!" And it's not the fact that it's a "value" resort. Looking at the AllStars doesn't make me roll my eyes. But, that's just my opinion. If you like Pop, by all means go and enjoy yourself there.

Excited about this Resort since I first made Ressies in 2002 when it was suppose to open....I will actually BE there in 14 days and can hardly wait! ;) Yes, I am a VALUE Resort person, if I can save big $$ while in Disney AND stay on site, I will DO IT!::yes::

Phat means good, nice, awesome...

Well, since you asked, I think we're all still here for the most part. I think most of us just don't like to rain on other people's parade. If you like POP, more power to you. I'm glad to hear that people had a good time there. But I still think it's (how to be nice?)... ummmm.... "very interesting" looking.
I agree.::yes::

We have stayed at All Stars before and for the price...it was fine! We enjoyed it. But we stayed there during the off season so it was quiet. There is still no way I would stay there if it was going to be busy at all.

BUT....I really have no interest in staying at Pop. It is just those aweful tacky words all over the place....yuk. And it seems so tight. All the buildings are so close together..
I know for a lot of people that is a plus...but just think what that place is going to be like at peak season. Some (if not all, I am not sure) of the buildings are 4 stories high. and all those people sharing the same pool. I have no desire to fight for a chair by the pool. all those people gathered at the food court.....

Not for me.

I much prefer the spaciousness of CBR or CSR!! we need space to breathe and relax. And be able to enjoy a walk around the grounds after a long day. Or for me....I love a walk at sunrise.....best place for that is at CSR.....IMHO.

We really enjoy the quiet pools too! We swim in the main pools, but there are days when we simply want to relax and who can do that with 3000 people all jumping in the pool at the same time.

Yes, there is occasion when we just go for the parks, and just need a place to sleep, and the budget is very slim. And if All Stars is completely booked.....we may end up at Pop. And I am sure we will have an awesome time.....we always do.

But it still is not a preferred resort to us.

So, you see.....we are still out here......just keeping quiet for a while.:p

I was a Pop Basher....and I decided to stay one night on Dec 20th prior to checking into BWV....I've stayed at Music and CBR in years past...

I bashed Pop because the themeing (especially the words on the 90's building) was annoying to me. Once being on property I warmed up to the thememing (except the words)..But for me the value resort (small beds, loud plumbing, and exterior halls) is only for me if the price is right. For my stay on Dec 20th it was $49 per night for each of my 2 rooms....so for $109 I got a clean room on property but the gentleman above me woke me up 2 times when nature called during the night..

Since you asked, I am not a big fan of Pop Century. People say it is like "walking down memory lane" but how? Sure there are shadow boxes in the lobby but, is seeing a 3 foot Rubik's Cube really going to bring back memories of the good old days?Remember it is not a real Resort. It is a Motel and when you take away the big BIG icons and bright colors, it feels like one. I was sucked into the hype too and I really regretted it. This is just my opinion.

Do not get me wrong, the lobby is worth seeing. The food court was great too. I just need more from a Resort.

I just got back from the POP and LOVED it! I loved walking by the lake and looking at the signs with all memories from each year. It was the tiny momentos that made me like the resort. I grew up in the 80's and walking around the 80's secton definetly took my boyfriend and I through a trip down memory lane. We had fun laughing at the shadow boxes in the lobby and remembering how we used to use those old green screen apple computers that were from the 80's. From the staircases, to the pools, to the lobby of the main building...I loved feeling like i was in a time warp.
Maybe I am just easy to please because I am only 22 and this was my first big trip to disney, but I thought that the resort was much nicer than many places I have stayed in before and for $55 a night, it was WELL worth it.
I went into the trip just thankful that I could be at disney on my college budget. The place as clean, staff was so kind and helpful, and it was just hands down fun. I had fun with the resort and thought the theming was relly clever(and have a whole role of film to prove it!) and to me, it was an amazing experience. I came into it with no expectations and came out pleasantly surprised! Perhaps, when I am older and more "sophisticated" the pop will seem tacky, but for now i had a ton of fun and loved it!

We are leaving for POP in two weeks from today. We will only be there for two nights and probably won't use the pool so how could I pass up the $49 rate???? What really sold me on the resort were the "inside" photos". The place seems a lot nicer than the AS. The only thing I really don't like about the AS is the rooms (I hate the red and blue furniture). I love all levels of disney resorts (CSR is still best for the $$$), but I fear that I may be in danger of declaring POP to be my favorite when I get back!

I agree about the "Words". They are a bit much.

the GF or the Poly!!! However, my checkbook belongs to the Value hotels!

Honestly, I'd much prefer to stay at the deluxe hotels (wouldn't most of us if we had the funds?). However, since I cannot afford it, I think it's great that Disney has the value hotels!! And actually, my kids prefer the All-Stars to the deluxes (where we go to participate in dinners and activities, we don't stay there) because there seems to be more people and more action.

The entire Disney property is the happiest place on earth! We are all so lucky to be able to go there...

I am always amazed at the number of people who have so much money to spend on vacation... and then I look at the bigger number of people who never get to go... and I count myself lucky! Just call me Baby Bear (not a lot of money, not too little)!

For the record, phat means Pretty Hot And Tempting.

I haven't seen Pop Century yet, I'm excited to see it on our next trip in December.

PHAT also means:

great, awesome, dope (yes that's good) and nice...

It's nice to see Disney embracing the hip-hop culture.
Looking forward to my trip to POP in 2 weeks...

It seems the meaning of the word changes depending on where you're from. I've never heard the word phat used to mean pretty hot and tempting.

I've always heard used as a postive way to describe something. Pretty much the way the word bad was used to say something was nice.

I asked my 12 year old son what phat means, and he agreed with me.

I wonder what meaning disney had in mind when they picked that word??
