Live Streamers at Restaurants

We ate at a WDW restaurant last week. We had a great spot but the tables were fairly close together.

We ended up next to a pair of live streamers. They ordered a bunch of items one at a time and shared them. They were there through our whole meal.

I don’t mind streamers in the parks where I can generally avoid them. But sitting next to them at a restaurant was a different experience. We felt like we couldn’t talk to each other because we didn’t want our conversation blasted out to people online.

What are your thoughts? Should Disney curb this practice or should we all just go with the flow?

They were ruining your experience so yes I would have said something.

That is incredibly rude. I'm surprised, however, that you suffered this in silence.

If I encountered such a situation, I would have told them to cut it out. If they refused, I'd make loud and boorish comments about them so that the microphone would pick it up, and they'd get the idea that live streaming (near me anyway) is not an acceptable behavior.

I’m usually one to speak up but my spouse isn’t as comfortable with public confrontation. At one point I did privately tell our waiter that I wasn’t crazy about the situation and he made it sound like it was totally normal and he sees it all the time. It was our last day of vacation and I wasn’t in the mood to escalate. It made me wonder if this was just the way things are now (kind of like how live steamers are all over the parks.)

Our waiter was super friendly with the streamers and really chatting them up.

I’ve heard some of them comment on their vlogs that when a restaurant is packed and the tables are really close together they opt to do their commentary at home as they edit so they don’t disturb people. So that’s good.

But yeah. It would bother me if I felt I couldn’t speak freely. I’d probably ask to change tables if it were possible.

It was a tough call…our table was perfect with a gorgeous view. (Like, arguably the best seat in the house). We were halfway through our appetizer when we realized they weren’t just talking to each other and their phone was propped up on a small tabletop tripod. Plus the restaurant was packed and we’d already waited a half hour past our ADR time.

I honestly thought that talking to the waiter may solve the problem but he definitely acted like it was no big deal. So we just decided to let it go.

After we realized they were live streaming, there were a few “panicked” moments of my spouse and I quietly saying to each other, “What did I say? Anything terrible or embarrassing?!?”

I would be quite vocal when talking to my dinner companion while they are streaming.

To us, it's just completely rude. But maybe it's a generational thing - live streamers, or just people yapping on the phone (often on speaker, because - well, who wouldn't be interested in the entire conversation they're having??). We'd never do that and never consider doing that. But there are some that it doesn't bother in the least.

These “influencers” collect a tiny fraction of what Disney collects on their free marketing. Frankly, it’s a terrible way to try and make a living for 99.9% of them.

Live streaming vs vlogging for me would be very different. Live streaming would drive me nuts, as they tend to loud and animated-moreso than a typical diner having a conversation. A vlogger speaking at a normal tone wouldn’t bother me, as long as I’m not stuck behind them in view chomping on my food. If I knew I was in frame, I would ask for a different table.

I agree that it is rude if they are being obtrusive and loudly recigint for their cameras. I would hate that! I will say that it is unlikely that your conversation would be picked up and I waould have just continued to speak as normal.

Your waiter knew he was going to get a much bigger tip from them than he was from you. Of course he wasn’t going to address the situation. I understand not complaining to management. My husband also does not like to make complaints in restaurants. I would have made my presence known to the streamers tho. I probably would have talked even louder than normal, extra coughing etc. Or just relaxed & enjoyed the view. I definitely wouldn’t have restrained my self on their account.

I really hope he didn’t make this assumption because he would have been very wrong. We are big tippers for very good service. And we ordered quite a bit too.
