What happened to all the Pop Century haters?

I haven't been here in a while, but the last I recall there was a widespread feeling that they should just knock the whole thing down and start over. Now it seems that everyone loves it!

Is it better than originally thought or are we just hearing from people who have reasonable expectations for this price range instead of people who are comparing it to the GF?

I'm considering switching my Easter reservations to Pop to take advantage of the spring code. Anyone think this is a bad idea?

Thanks,

Sher

I think they were "Tyler-ized." ;)

Where is your Easter reservation now?

I think the problem was that no one really saw the real Pop Century. All they saw was a few key icons from the road, and immediatly passed judgement. And indeed, it was compared to things that are completely different.

Now that folks have seen a more complete view of Pop Century, they're getting to see that it's a really great resort.

thread. I was wondering WHERE they all went too?:p  YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! COME OUT COME OUT WHERE EVER YOU ARE!!!

I called just this morning and switched from All Star Movies to Pop Century. We love the "Disney-ness" of All Star Movies but I hate to pay over $100 for a value resort so we are giving Pop Century a try for this short trip.

I hope that Tyler is paid well for his promotion work on this site! I'm going back to read more of that thread right now.

You were able to get a better deal at Pop than Movies? No wonder we've been busy! :) I'm sure you'll enjoy your trip down Memory Lane... :)

Yes Tyler I also think you should get some kind of award for all the work you have done on these boards advertising POP Century. You made me so excited to try it that I changed my friends and my reservations for this Thanksgiving from WL to POP. We can't wait to check it all out for ourselves.

I too, have been enthrawled by the reports that Tyler has given us all. We were to orginally stay at the WL and then I decided to stay our first night in Orlando at the Pop. However, after more and more good reports from Tyler, we switched our whole ressie to the Pop. Now, in 23 days, we will see what all of the fuss is about!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!!

Cya There!!

:wave2:

I've *always* thought the theming idea was great!! We've never stayed at a value, and at this point I don't know if I'll ever be able to get DH to want to stay at a value resort, but I LOVE the idea of Pop Century, and now that's it actually here and I've seen the pictures, it's beyond what I thought it would be. I'm really glad that most people are enjoying this resort and it's getting the "respect" it deserves! :p Maybe DSs and I will have to take a "mother-and-sons" trip and stay there some day! :sunny:

Well, since you asked, I think we're all still here for the most part. I think most of us just don't like to rain on other people's parade. If you like POP, more power to you. I'm glad to hear that people had a good time there. But I still think it's (how to be nice?)... ummmm.... "very interesting" looking.

As the cliche goes, don't judge a book by its cover... Most of the people I've talked to have tended to change thier views once they actually got into the resort, and were immersed in the trip down memory lane.

I am at Pop Century right now (in the 60's) and I also was wondering what happened to all those nay-sayers from months ago!!! All the guests look pretty happy here! This hotel is going to be very very popular - for the price it's a great deal! The rooms are nice, the food court has a great selection (had turkey and mashed potatoes tonight), and you can even see the fireworks from Illuminations by the Bowling Pin buildings (50's I think) near the lake! :teeth: This is my first "value" resort, and I would love to stay here again! :)

Since you asked, I am not a big fan of Pop Century. People say it is like "walking down memory lane" but how? Sure there are shadow boxes in the lobby but, is seeing a 3 foot Rubik's Cube really going to bring back memories of the good old days?Remember it is not a real Resort. It is a Motel and when you take away the big BIG icons and bright colors, it feels like one. I was sucked into the hype too and I really regretted it. This is just my opinion.

Do not get me wrong, the lobby is worth seeing. The food court was great too. I just need more from a Resort.

I managed to just change my A/S Movies reservations to Pop Century for my 9 night April 29-May8 visit too. I was really shocked to get a ressie of that length on short notice, esp. at a CM discount.....

n2mm - Hey there!! I just noticed you were from WV too!! Nice to see a fellow West Virginian on the boards!!! I rarely come across anyone from here. Where do you live? We live in South Charleston.

We are also booked for the Pop Century for Feb 7 - 14!! I can't wait. I think I am more excited than the kids!!!

Cya THere!!!

:jumping1:

girlsx2--it is unusual to see another WV poster--don't know why, but will keep my opinion to myself..teehee. Too far away from you. We are outside Wash. DC, near Harpers Ferry. Looks like we just miss each other on our upcoming trip. We are at the WL from Jan. 30-Feb. 6, and then you arrive on the 7th. Let us know how you like PC, we will be there April 29th.

Well, I don't know if I ever mentioned that I disliked Pop Century. But one thing that really bothered me was the first time I saw it. The very first thing I saw upon entering WDW were words like DUH and the first thing that poppped into my head was "isn't the reason why Walt bought so much land in florida, because he didn't like the tacky hotel signs in California"? I like the idea of the Pop Century, I even think its kind of fun, I guess I just wish it wasn't the first thing I saw upon entering WDW.

I have to say that we were at Pop for 10 days last week and I loved it - but I HATED those words on the buildings. I think it's overdone, and I didn't like the words they chose, especially for the 90's, which we were in. PHAT? DUH, Don't have a cow? Hello? How much of the population actually uses these word?? That was my biggest disappointment, I think.

The trip down memory lane in the lobby, however, is terrific. Being a technology person, though, it was tough to see my present kitchen phone sitting right next to the 5 1/4" floppies from the 80's!!
