This is my Dh's first Father's Day! Yay! :cheer2: Any suggestions for a simple, sweet gift? We don't want Mother's/Father's Day to be too extravagant, probably a gift of lesser value than we would normally give for birthdays or Christmas. So what do you think?

Well, what did you get for Mother's Day? ;) :teeth:

How about something with the baby's picture on it? A mug, etc. They can be ordered directly from Kodak I think. A letter from you saying how he's been a great dad this first year would be a special, meaningful gift, too. It could be from you or written from teh viewpoint of your baby.

Make him a t-shirt with a single baby handprint on the left chest pocket.
DH has two and still wears them! He says they were his favorite father's day gifts.

It's hard when the babies are so young, but I tried to have the kids give him something with meaning for "them" even when they were little. For example, my oldest loved cookies and it was one of his first words. DH likes to bake, so he got a cookie cook book that year. Another year DH's socks kept disappearing and we figured out why when we caught youngest DS tossing daddy's socks in the garbage can. That year DH got a bunch of socks for Father's Day. I've also done a children's "a day with my dad" themed book with a gift certificate inside. The boys loved reading them over and over and dh got to feel like a hero and also enjoy his gift certificate. Another year the boys made funny faces at the photo place at the mall for a mug.

Now, the kids and I generally just choose something we think he will enjoy. Have fun!

I don't have any ideas on a gift, but here's a neat tradition we do at our house. Every year we trace the kids' hands on the cards or envelopes for Mother's Day and Father's Day. We have a neat record of how they've grown over the years.

Well, I know it's not exactly sentimental, but when my sister and I were growing up, we always got my dad a new movie or two for Father's Day. We did the homemade card thing and then got a movie to go with it, and it always worked for us.

We used to get him stuff that he liked (Indiana Jones, Star Wars, James Bond) but that we could watch too. Some of my fondest memories are of watching those great movies with my dad when I was growing up.

If she can get the baby's hand open! :teeth: We made shirts when my three older kids were little. My youngest child at the time was a toddler and my other 2 kids were 4 and 7yo. I had a devil of a time getting my little guy's hand open. My 7yo was my helper, but she was too young to help much. It was kind of a messy shirt. :rotfl: I did the shirts again a year or two ago, now with 4 kids. Thankfully my youngest was 4-5yo and with my older kids so much older, it went much better. My DH loves the shirts!
