What gets me most is the hypocrites on this board

Here's the thing though. If you're coming with two adults, a toddler and a baby, off-site places aren't THAT much cheaper than the Value resorts that it makes any difference. I'm not saying Disney shouldn't offer MB to off-site guests, but I'm saying it's not a huge hardship to ask people to stay on site.
I would agree EXCEPT that they might have gotten a great deal and might be planning to eat some meals at their resort. That's hard to do at the Value resorts.

We got a great deal for our stay. We are staying somewhere on points and it's costing $10 a night. I can't resist that.

Some people spend good money on timeshares and timeshare point exchange programs every year, which does make it inconvenient for them to stay on site. I'd rather spend $164 to exchange to an off-site property than pay out $4,000++ to stay at a comparable WDW resort during a holiday week, especially when I factor in the $800+ airfare I'm going to have to buy to even get to FL

Right, that's fine, but then why should Disney treat you equally?

Where did I say that? Of course they aren't going to treat me equally. I don't get EMH when I don't stay on site. When I go to Disneyland, I get a bigger discount than those who have the cheaper APs than I do. And BTW, I am paying just as much as you are for my tickets (and probably even more when I had a Premier AP last year.) I'm sorry you think you are better than others because you stay at a Disney resort :)

I'm simply stating that for some people (myself included) it makes more sense for them to stay off-site.

It's a moot point..Disney is offering MBs to offsite guests - they've already said that they will. The "on site perk" is that they're free to WDW resort guests. Offsite guests will have to pay for them.

Offsite guests will still have free access to FP+, though, with the RFID cards that come with all ticket media.

We prefer to stay at Wyndham Bonnet Creek in a one or two bedroom fully equipped condo for $60.00-$90.00 per night and do some meals in our room. (However, we do eat alot of meals onsite too, so Disney still gets our money.) We can stay in a deluxe resort over at Bonnet Creek with four times the space for about the same (if not cheaper) than a Value resort and still be within the WDW gates, just minutes from any of the parks. I have no desire to stay in a Value resort. However I am an annual passholder who goes to WDW 4-6 times every year. Even if we are staying at Wyndham Bonnet Creek, in my $60.00 per night condo, I am spending more than the guest who comes once in a lifetime and stays in a Value resort with free dining. Heck we paid over $1800.00 last May just for park tickets for the three of us. I spent almost $400.00 just on Disney Vera Bradley bags last month. Does Disney really want to alienate their loyal passholders who come down there several times a year, just because we happen to prefer to stay offsite?

We stay at my in-law's timeshare at Sheraton Vistana for $59 a week!! It's beautiful, 2 bedrooms, whirlpool tub, super close to parks.
I love staying on site but couldn't justify the cost.
But... If fastpasses won't be available to offsite guests we'll stay onsite but maybe once every 5 years :(
I can also see a trip to Universal soon. At least their resorts are somewhat reasonable and FOTL makes it worth it.

Offsite guests will get fp+ for free (included with park admission). Disney has officially stated that. We just don't know when they will roll it out to offsite guests

Did you read that on Disney's site? I didn't know this was "official".

I do think on site guests should get some perks. But I don't think anyone should be treated differently. I don't think giving out perks to on site guests is treating someone badly.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you guys mean as being treated different or not equal.

If on site guests don't have perks, then what incentive does Disney have to try to get people to stay on site?

This is a direct quote from Tom Staggs on the Disney Parks Blog:

Hi, Todd. Guests staying at Walt Disney World Resort hotels, and Annual Passholders will receive a band, as well as those guests who purchase a photography package. Guests who stay at non-Disney hotels will receive a ticket with features of touch to enter the park, touch to redeem FastPass+ and touch to pay. These guests can participate in My Disney Experience and purchase a MagicBand if they wish.

Source - in response to comment #13

Guests can purchase MBs if they wish, but the ticket they purchase will come with touch to redeem FP+ as is. This is consistent with what Disney has been saying since the beginning.

Further confirmation from an article that states that FP+ is included in park admission:
UPDATE 2 p.m. Jan. 7, 2013 -Disney has released a few more details:
" Disney FastPass+ service is included with theme park admission.
" The MagicBand is initially available to select Walt Disney World Resort hotel guests and guests who purchase other specific products.
" Other guests will be able to use their standard ticket to access the benefits of MyMagic+, such as making FastPass+ selections on the My Disney Experience website and app.

Onsite guests do have perks - EMH, the dining plan, free parking...they may not be perks everyone likes or takes advantage of, but they are perks.

Yeah, I think offsite customers will get FP+...the question is the prebooking window. That's where the onsite perk might come from IMO.

I agree, just like with adrs.

I realize they have perks now.

My question was more directed to the people who think everyone should be treated "equally". I'm asking, if you think everyone should be equal and not receive perks, then what incentive would Disney have to entice people to stay on site?

I think this is going to be it. Offsite guests will still get the fastpass+ option. But when they get there. So it will be a limited pool. My guess is Disney has done the numbers and make more money from the onsite guests at their insanely inflated hotel prices. Makes sense to me anyway. Is it right? Is it fair? We could argue about it all day but in the end.. I really think this is the way it will go. After staying onsite at Universal and getting access to their front of the line feature, I won't even consider staying offsite when I go. Stands to reason Disney is trying to get people to really think hard about coming back onsite.

Oh I still think offsite will be able to prebook...Disney has made it too much a part of their way of selling fp+. I think its going to be like adrs where onsite guests get +10 days over offsite guests.

Bonnet Creek is NOT on WDW property. Anyone can buy Vera Bradley/Disney bags. A family of 3 could spend around 1200.00 on tickets for only 5 days. AP holders pay a little more and can get in the parks 360 more days. So you don't spend any money on Disney owned hotels , you enjoy their parks on several trips a year for just a little more than that "once in a lifetime "family and you eat some meals on site.Hmm my guess is Disney makes more money on that other family. And there are a LOT of those families.

Interesting theory and I see your point but I don't think that +10 would really be enough of an advantage. Or at least I can't even imagine the planning that would have to go into knowing every park I will be in, at what time, and planning every ride to go with it 60 days in advance to take advantage of my extra few days to do so. All this stuff makes my head hurt. I wish they'd just issue the official "this is how it will all work" decree and be done with it already.

Could be same-day only for offsite, that would be a huge disadvantage. I think the +10 could even be the difference. Might not matter so much during some weeks of the year, but during the busy weeks, could make a big difference.

Disney must make more $ from onsite guests IMO. Look at all of the trouble they go through to kidnap people at the airport on their ME bus lol. They want all of the money, the dining, the hotel, the souvenirs, the snacks, the tickets, everything. Why wouldn't they right.

I doubt this and agree that it would be a big disadvantage mostly because of AP holders. A lot of them are off site locals and day trippers. I have to think they would allow for off site guests to do it in advance. At least I hope.

Your second paragraph.... ROFL. Funny. ;)
