what funny thing has your cat done?

Our cat Ariel likes to sleep in weird places, my favorite is the bath room sink. ONLY the one side, never the other. :confused3

She also MUST have her dixie cup of water every night like the girls (we put hers in a special spot next to her sink so the girls don't drink from it) and will cry in the bathroom till she gets it. :teeth:

She used to be my best friend until I gave birth to my youngest (she is only a year older than Ashley). Then she wouldn't come near me for almost a year. Now things are better and in the last few months she even sleeps at my feet again and will kneed me every blue moon.

Guess who is her best friend now? Ashley, of course. :rotfl: Ever since Ash turned one she has taken on to feeding Ariel all her food and loves to bruush her.

Our cat Monty likes to play Yahtzee. Even if he's sound asleep on the other side of the house, he magically appears when he hears us break out the dice. He likes to steal a couple of dice from us and bat them around the house.

We used to have a cat that would stare at the walls obsessively, and occasionally run straight up them.

our "big" cat is a male simese he weighs more than the 5 yr old 40+ lbs!
he does not do much anymore.
the kittens like to jump in the shower with anyone and if you flush a toilet, watch out for runnung kitties! the HAVE to watch the water go down and then play in the toilet. they also play in the laundry sink. if you run water, does not matter what faucet, they come running to play in it
mommy cat wrestles with the kittens.
we had another kitten that would sleep on her back with a paw over her face or sleep on top of DH monitor, or sleep with the dog- kitten scared the dog in the dark one night, no more kitten :guilty:

SO many stories, so little time. :rotfl:

About 3 years ago, I took my 1 & only 7 day cruise without anyone from my family (went with a theater group). While I was away, my boy cat was driving my Dh crazy. You know, non-nuetered boy cat, lots of stray girls cats in heat all around our house, you get the picture. After about 2 days of this, Dh just lets him out. By the morning, the nieghbor's dog has treed him in the skinniest, tallest tree & the cat is too scared to come down. My Dh tries everything, but nothing works.

5 days later, I get off the ship, have to drive home for 2 & 1/2 hours and find out my cat is stuck up a tree. I am highly emotional because I had never been away from my family for so long, plus my roomate on the cruise was a raging alcoholic (long story), so I lost it. My DD (2 at the time) was crying , I was crying, it was not pretty.

After a few hours of trying to get him down, I decided to call the fire department. I didn't think they would come out, but maybe they would have some ideas. After laughing at me & putting me on hold, the fireman I spoke with told me they would be right out. (It was a pretty Sunday, so I guess they weren't that busy).

About 5 minutes later, here comes 2 firetrucks, sirens blaring. Out pops 9 firemen! One of them was the chief! He told me he hasn't been out on a cat call in over 15 years, so he couldn't resist riding along. One of the firemen donned full protective gear :lmao: & they proceed to get my scardey cat out of the tree. The little bugger tried to run from them once they got up to him!

We made a donation to the firemen's children's charity & Duke the cat was nuetered the next day. He still runs under the bed when he hears sirens. :rotfl2:

my kitties like to drink sweet iced tea out of a glass. I can't sit a glass of tea down without one of them taking it over. I call them little caffeine freaks. :lmao:

They chase their tails all the time. They are facinated with ceiling fans. They will sit under one and follow the rotation of the blades. :rotfl: Oh and our oldest male cat shadow has his very own posting id on the dis it's, you guessed it, Shadow Kitty.

yeah, mommy thinks i'm strange having my own id, and she wants me to refer ricky,, thats the little orange baby kitty they named after this guy they know on here,, somebody named rickinnyc?/ :confused3 /

i have to tell you about ricky. hes my little buddy now. he will only eat at feeding time if i am. he wont share abowl with any of the other kittys but me.
he sleeps in mommy and daddys hair at night, me and ms bootsie just think hes strange, everyone knows a good kitty sleeps at the foot of the bed, or snuggled in the middle between the parents.

and earlier while daddy was letting me read this thread, he was up on the desk staring at the screen thingy and trying to catch the little moving balls in the other posts. he really gets excited when daddy quotes someone,, he likes that big yellow box of moving thingies..

daddy reaally needs to wipe all of ricky's nose prints of the screen thing now.

this is ricky..
he likes daddys camera thingy.

Can you please leave any sad outcomes out of your stories? This is supposed to be a FUN topic! Thank you!!

Lily will rip a cardboard box to shreds with her teeth. Her teeth are VERY sharp from this practice! She will also sit on my pillow and my head if she wants me to wake up and feed her.

Sasha (who is my avatar) is my "climber". She jumps up my fake indoor tree, jumps to top shelves, on top of doors, anything high up. She'll find catnip no matter where you hide it. She loves jewelry- chains especially. Once, she ran away with my rosary in her mouth!

Both "talk" and "ask" to be petted. Both love bugs and if a moth gets in the house, they'll cry at it and chase it for hours!

One of our cats, Figaro, opens doors. He is my 'baby' and has to be in the same room I am in. If I go into a room and close the door behind me, he will start with clawing at the floor near the bottom of the door and when that doesn't work, he will jump up to the door handle and keep jumping on it until it turns and his weight will open the door a small amount, just enough for him to push it open further. My Dh and I sit in our bedroom and time him, laughing our butts off watching the knob turn with each attempt. The shortest amount of time we have recorded is 45 seconds. (from the time I close the door behind me)

Thank God this only works on inner doors (because they open to the inside of the room) or he would be escaping the house. I keep telling my Dh we have to video tape it, but he will have to do it because Figgy won't do it when I am in the room.

Most of our cats are 'talkers', but Figaro and our mama cat (Shenzi) are the most vocal. If I talk to mama, she will answer me everytime I said 'what mama bear?" It is hilarious. I can keep her going for a long time.

i used to do that to get outside if the people werent at home, they put those cute lever knobs on the doors, and i would open the front door , which didnt have a screen door on it at the time, and go out side to play.

LOL, a few of my cats are the same way, they love to climb as high as possible! I have even caught them teetering on the frame of the door (which is like only like an inch wide). They also like to walk along the hand railing above the steps, it makes me cringe because I am afraid hey will fall and get hurt.

My cats ALL love moths and bugs of any kind. That sort of entertainment will keep them amused for hours too.

And our Zoe loves cardboard boxes too. She doesn't usually bite them, but claws the heck out of them.

Cats are such amusing animals.

LOL, bad kitty! Figaro learned the door handle trick on my sons bedroom downstairs which does have the lever type handle...then he started to learn how to open the 'knob' type, which are on the upstairs rooms (like my bedroom, LOL).

Thankfully, none of our outside doors open outward and they are sort of heavy, so unless Figaro learns a new complex trick, he is out of luck. Well, the storm door does open outwards, but he would have to open the front door first.

When my sister & I got our first apartment she went to the pound and found a feline with a very regal attitude and brought her home. They figured Sheba had lost a litter of kittens shortly before being brought in. Once my sister got pg with her first, Sheba became very maternal, to the point of sleeping on her belly at every chance. Because we had a second floor apartment with no A/C, not only would my sister get hot, but just before her July due date, the baby literally booted the cat until she left.
The cat then adopted my DH when we started dating and came to live with us. Once I became pg with DD she did the same thing - had to sleep on my belly. At night in our queen sized bed poor DH had no space with me, my belly, my 6 pillows and the cat perched up on the belly.
With both infants Sheba was also incredibly maternal. She would stand guard whenever they cried, until someone was attending to the baby, and she would stay close to DD and lick her head if I was nursing her.

We also had a runt, Simba who could almost fly - he would run to the start of the 12 foot hallway, then jump, bounce off the wall about midway up, then land at the other end. It wasn't even a straight run to the hallway - I never could quite figure out how he could manage it.

I have 2 cats and 3 rabbits. The rabbits live in a run and borrow outside and the cats often like to go and sit in the bunnie hutch with them. The cats sit their and the bunnies lick them, then the cats clean the bunnies!!

My favourite though was when we used Cheeky in a production DH and I were in at the local theatre as he is such a peoples cat (evey time people come to our house he fusses around them until he gets a stroke!). He totally upstaged the lead character! When the curtains opened the lead character was holding the cat. When Cheeky saw the audience he turned around, looked at everyone and purred really loudly down the lead chatacters radio microphone!! The whole theatre just sat there making awww noises!!

Ours still does drink out of the sink. As soon as DH comes home (and Tigger hears him before I do), he runs to the bathroom and meows until DH turns on the water for him. Also, DH recently bought me the armoire from the WL refurbishment. If the doors are open so I can watch TV, Tigger jumps up into the little area to the right below the TV and sleeps there. It's amazing that a 20 pound cat is so agile. He can jump up onto that area, turn around, and lie down, without bumping into anything. And he's long haired like Cricket. Is she at all Maine Coon?

Yay!! My cat isn't a total wierd-o if somebody else's cat does it, too! It's very possible she has some Maine Coon in her- it would go a long way to explaining her girth that she hasn't lost even after being on a diet for the last 3 years. However, I have no idea what she is- as far as I know she's a mutt. I got her for my 15th birthday from my aunt. Cricket used to do the whole run to the bathroom and cry for water bit, too. She would even sleep in the sink while we weren't home.

Does your Tigger also have issues with tipping cups over? Crickey doesn't do it as bad as she used to, but she's notorious for walking over to unguarded cups and tipping them over to spill the entire contents on the floor!

She's sleeping in here with me right now and looks like an angel kitty. Does your Tigger do the "power merph," too when he jumps up on things? I'm wondering if it's a trait of larger cats, since another poster mentioned that their large cat does it, too.

Cricket doesn't jump up under the tv, since it's very high up (and the door thing probably would not support her), but she does have a perch on our little screened in back porch. There used to be a giant oak tree right next to her perch and she had a squirrel that would come down and taunt her. She'd yell at him and then come inside and tell us her stupid squirrel was outside again. The tree fell down a couple of winters ago, so we haven't seen her squirrel in a while....I'm sure she's crushed.

AND even though it has nothing to do with anything and my post is already ridiculously long, here's a couple of pictures of my Mom's cat, Taz (I took them with our grovy new camera). (Coincidently, if anyone was wondering, these two cats are where I got my screename from: Taz+Cricket). Taz will head butt my Dad until he pets her and she'll yell at my Mom when it's time to go to bed. She begs for chicken at dinner and spends most of her time avoiding their shih-tzu, Koty. I've made her sound mean, but she's really sweet. She's georgous and she knows it. DH and I came home the other day, and I asked Cricket, "How is the most beautiful kitty in the world?" (it's good for her self-esteem! :teeth: ) and DH said, "I don't know, we could call your Mom and ask!"

One of my cats will also meow from water from the sink he refuses to drink out of anything else well sometimes he does drink out of the toliet. I'll come home he will meow until I follow him into the bathroom to turn the sink on for him. Also in the mornings he is my little alarm clock he will meow/purr in my ear jump down run for the bathroom meowing all the way and looking behind him to make sure I'm coming.

Both of my cats also bring me things and like to play fetch. This morning we woke up to a shower puff in the bed. They will also drop there toys in the food bowl. There are always like three toys in the bowl so when I fill it up I'll take the toys out but next time I look they are back in the bowl!

Here is a picture of our cats when we first got the black one!

cuddle2.jpg

We had to buy Tigger one of those water bowls for cats that comes with the water fall type feature so that the water pours out as if from the faucet. And although he doesn't seem to have a thing for cups, he always lets us know when his dish of dry food is near empty-he picks it up by the edge with his teeth and tips it over or at least on its side, then bats it around the kitchen floor until we "get the hint" and refill it. And I'm not sure I should tell you how he lets us know when his kitty litter box needs to be changed. He waits until I'm watching TV and lets just say the TV set needs windshield wipers and he's suddenly not toilet trained. What's funny (if you can see it as that) is that he HAS to do this right in front of me so that I'm sure to get the message and clean his litter box. So it's a constant challenge around here to make sure his litter box is clean and we don't forget so he has to "remind" us.

our cat drags blankets around.

there is one in the living room window for him to sit on. everyday he drags it off with his month. one day we came home we found it on top of the stairs!

we were away 2 weeks ago,
he dragged every blanket and the kids comforter on the second floor into the hallway. he even dragged the 2 cushions off the couch in the computer/guest room.

my friend came over to feed him, and thought someone came in the house :rotfl2:

Funny? Weird yes... the two kittens (4 mos old now) Simba and Kovu - were "cut off" some time ago by the mom.... well I guess the miss the bonding..... and if Maia our Yorkie is laying on her back (much like a picture of a cat earlier in this thread) the boys will quite off be found comfortably "nursing" on the dog.... They were doing it to her last night in bed and making her really crazy!

There is a wall between my kitchen and living room that does not go all the way to the high ceilings - on that wall are my kitchen cabinets. Daphne (the mom above) likes to sleep up there - well now she likes to play fetch up there - she meows loudly with ball in mouth, then brings it to us, we then throw it up to the cabinet, and she jumps from counter to fridge to cabinets and chases ball, picks up ball, jumps back down and brings it back to us.

All three of the above mentioned cats like to walk on the top edge of the wall like they are on a balance beam.

At one point before Daphne became a mom - there was a hole in one of rhe screens on around the lanai and she would get out. One night while I was laying in bed I heard the pitter patter of feet on the roof - it was not Christmas Eve - so I knew it could not be reindeer.... come to find out it was the cat!!!

The "boys" (all our other pets are females) LOVE to wrestle in the bath tub. There is a wrestling match just about every night after I get in bed!

There are lots of other quite comical things that go on around here on a daily basis with 5 cats and 2 dogs....... My other two cats - Emmie and Cassie are not climbers.... so having these three has opened my eyes!

Here's Kovu (and Simba's ears) on top of the cabinets!

The Marquis is either an Italian cat or a cat with an eating disorder. For him food really is love. He can't eat without someone to pet him. We keep his bowl of food on the bathroom counter next to the sink so sometimes just washing hands, brushing teeth, or just standing within 3 feet of him will work; usually though after a minute or so he'll look like up to see why we've stopped petting him. If ever we do not make ourselves available to aid him in his eating he's screams--"Mehhh!"--sometimes all night long. I'm just glad he can still go to the bathroom without needing petting!

One of our current cats, Snickers, answers to her name! Every time you use her name in a conversation with her she meows in return. We stopped counting her responses at 14 in a recent "conversation".

That reminds me...my cat's name is Rowan (as in Rowan and Martin, I think; I didn't name him) and when he was little, I used to listen to all of the Cardinals games on the radio due to not having cable TV. During a series against the Phillies, he about lost his mind every time Scott Rolen's name was mentioned, staring at the speakers and trying to figure out who was talking to him. :lmao: Thankfully, he was over it by the time Rolen was traded here.
