What format are movies for Kindle Fire in? Is there a converter?

Hi! My DH is getting a kindle fire for CHristmas, and I was wondering if I could get a few movies ready for him to load onto it. What format do the movies need to be in, and is there a converter out there for them so I can convert our DVD's into that format? Thanks!

From what i understand, you cannot legally load your own movies. It is designed to only wok with amazon marketplace movies.

The Kindle Fire recognizes MP4 format. I use a program called handbrake to convert my movies and the MP4's will go on both my iPad and my Fire.

Handbrake does not remove the blockers though. I use DVD43 to remove them but it doesn't work on most computers that have 64 bit windows so you will most likely need to find another program to do that.

There are many different programs out there that you can purchase that will do both the blocker removal and the conversion. They are usually in the $40-$100 range depending on what all they do.

Just wanted to add that I tried this on my computer that has 64 bit Windows on it and it worked perfectly. Now I can convert videos on both of my computers.
