What for DD while DS is at Haunted House?

HI,

I'm re-doing my FP planning for MK days. We're coming with DS9 and DD5. I am trying to keep us together as much as I can but there are a few rides I must split up.

I want to take DS on Haunted House (that's the one ride I remember when I came as a kid). My DD scares easily and so don't think it'll be for her. But what is a good one to take her on at the same time? I would FP Haunted House, so options are:
  • Enchanted Tales with Belle ... but DS may even enjoy this one if it's an interactive show
  • It's a Small World ... DS may also enjoy this?
  • Have her wait near by

Or is there anything to keep her busy near by (i.e. just wait for him)?
Am trying to figure this out since I'd also want a FP for Enchanted Tales with Belle.

Would love your advice. Thanks

The movie "Mickey's Philharmagic" is close by and would probably take up about the same time as the Haunted Mansion. Also, maybe the Winnie the Pooh ride.

Peter Pan's Flight is very close as well, but your son may like that one as well.

I'm not sure what time of year you're going... If it's a slow/moderate time, there are times during the day when neither HM nor IASM have big lines. You could split up and do both without using any FPs....

Going 3rd week in October.
Is Its a Small World a younger side ride? i.e. that would be good if DS9 would be bored

Mickey's Philharmagic typically doesn't have a wait beyond waiting for the next show to start - having said that, it's one of my favorite things in Disney and I would be loathe to leave someone out! Pooh would be a great option... but it usually has a much longer line than Small World...

It's a younger ride. Some people roll their eyes and refuse to go on... Others MUST ride - mostly for nostalgia reasons. If DD loves it, it would be easy enough to ride it a second time so that brother can see it too....

Small world is very close to the Haunted Mansion. If your DD likes it, she'll probably enjoy it enough to ride a second time with your DS if he's interested.

It would be something worth going back for later if OP's son decided he wanted to see it. You can always do something twice.

Thank you. This is very good to know that it is a ride that can be ridden more than once. I have marked this one for now.
And I actually have Mickey's PhilarMagic show directly following for both.

Small World is an everyone ride. Some people don't like it, but many do, and those that do encompass all ages.

I know you said she scares easily, but you may want to look up a youtube video of the mansion to see if you think it would bother her. We've taken our kids on that since they were infants and its never been a thought that it would be too scary.

Does your daughter like Rapunzel?

There is a sitting area right next to HM that is dedicated to Rapunzel. My daughter LOVES this area and has fun just hanging out in it. We usually get a drink and let her just chill out and she plays Rapunzel for awhile. It's cute area for photos too.

( Don't even get me started on the first time she went into the "Rapunzel" bathroom....couldn't get her out of there and not the most ideal place to hang out!! :lmao: )

This could be a good option. My dd loved just exploring this area. Also (someone correct me if I'm wrong please) there are hidden Pascals in the sitting area. My dd and I had fun looking for them, but we only saw 2 while waiting for the rest of our party to finish in the restrooms.

I will second taking a loot at the youtube video of the Haunted Mansion, maybe twice, once by yourself, and then a second time with your daughter watching too. DS has been going to the Haunted Mansion with us since he was 4. I never even considered the possibility that it might scare him. I don't really recall seeing any kids run out of the mansion screaming and crying, though I suppose it probably does happen from time to time.

The only time I've seen kids scared is in the first part when it goes black

My daughter is actually afraid of HM and she's 11! Anything that's the least bit spooky or eerie voices gets her .... But she'll ride Mission Space orange over and over....

Neat. This would be an option too. Esp if we get a FP for Haunted Mansion then I don't imagine she'd be waiting too long. Ha ha...now you got me curious about that bathroom.

Yeah...I can show them the YouTube videos .... eventually. The thing is we won't be telling them about the trip until maybe later in the summer, and I have to make FP decisions before that. i.e. so Haunted House for all 4 of us, or just 2?

I'm just not sure HM is a great FP candidate...of course I don't know when you are going, but it typically is one of the shorter to moderate waits...not walk on like the Tiki Room, but really seems to only get crazy busy when it rains (and people want shelter).

As for the scares, there really is only one, and that is even before you get on the ride itself, that's the "stretching room" when it goes black and there is thunder...and a skeleton hanging in the ceiling...after that, it is just a dark, creepy ride, with nothing jumping or gross.

But, kids have imaginations so since you know her best, it might be smart not to ruin the day for her...let her decide if she wants to, then just use the standby line with her.

I would let her watch on the ride on line U tube, and explain that its pretend, if she is a no go, there is the big paddle wheel boat right next door, that you could ride on, or maybe check out some of the stores, the hall of presidents is also right around the corner while not the most exciting, but you can sit down in the air conditioning for a while :thumbsup2.

Going Oct 19th for six nights. My understanding is crowd levels will be moderate (used to be low, which is why we selected it, but now...busier)

Again....I can't show her YouTube until AFTER my FP date...since we for sure won't be telling our kids until after that date. Can show her after, but then will have to see if I can move around FP selections i.e. by what is left.

As for FP selections...the other rides I've grouped together around that time are:
  • Enchanted Tales (FP)
  • It's a Small World
  • Mickey's PhilarMagic
  • Carrousel
...so my understanding from research is Haunted House should be one...and these are will be early afternoon, after lunch

(earlier in the day I have FP selections: 7DMT for DS and LM for DD)

Keeping on the 'simpler' rides our first day
