and if they do what food can or can`t u take on board?

I have got a 6yr old little girl and i don`t know what food to take on the plane. For me and my little girl it is the first time we have flown on a plane so any tips on what to take on the plane i would be very greatfull

thanks

To be honest, I always panic a bit before I board the plane and end up with way too much food/drinks/entertainment but then again, I like to be well prepared for all eventualities :rolleyes1

Best things for me to take are a large bottle of water (so I don't have to keep asking the FA's), large bag of assorted to nuts (to eat with my gin and tonics :bitelip: and maybe some Pringles (normal crisp bags I find get crushed in my bag). I also try to be good, and maybe take a few peices of fruit, but then bags of MM's, flapjacks etc always seem to find themselves in my hand luggage.

I usually end up throwing most of it away, but at least I have it if I wanted it :flower:

I don't think there are any restrictions on what you take on the plane. The restrictions are more applicable as to what you can actually enter America with if you don't eat it all.

I'm sure somebody will supply a list.

I'd take as much snacks etc as you can but DO be prepared to dump whatever you don't eat, I find chocolate goes mushy and crisps get crushed but anything else will be ok. oh, and definately take a large bottle of water, the air conditioning always makes my throat dry!

Hi

We are taking with some ice gems, small bags of haribo jelly sweets, little bags of 10p crisps, bannanas, little bags of choc stars and cartons. Then what we dont eat I will throw away your not allowed to take certain food into the country. We are travelling with 5 year old and twin boys of 23 months we have thought about taking liots of little snacks so they can enjoy them on the plane.

No idea how much they cost but TCD do sell snacks on the planes, Pringles and Chunky Kit Kats were the only 2 I remember.

One point worth noting, if you child wants a childrens meal then make sure you confirm that with TCD. When I booked the flights they asked me if I wanted a childs meal for my daughter and I said yes. When the meals came round they had no order for it nor had they any spare. My daughter was not impressed.

The first time I went with lads aged 5 and 7, I took way, way too much stuff. Now I just take the minimum crisps, nuts and water. Remember you are not moving around so are not using much energy and, therefore, don't need as much food as you do at home. There are usually two meals on the plane in any case and a snacks trolley.

yeah we are thinking about getting are 6yr old alot of little sweets like that
also we might let her have her own flight bag, with all her stuff in....

can i ask what sort of entertainment should i take on for my 6yr old?

I recently flew with my little son for the first time and the big hit was instant oatmeal! I tucked a couple packages away in my purse and a good thing I did--we were delayed by several hours! Poor son. But I was able to make nutritious food with hot water and a cup from the flight attendant.(I always have a spoon with me.) Several other parents were asking where we got the oatmeal. Yummy! :goodvibes

 Hi there Leiamichelle,

I think one of the best things for kids is to take a scrap book, Prit stick, some plastic safety scissors, old comic book(preferably Disney) little stickers and some coloured pencils and a sharpener (learned the hard way NEVER to take felt tips, but thats another story entirely LOL) Also you may want to take a colouring book. We usualy take a couple of travel games, for a six year old i would suggest snakes and ladders or similar and you can make it more fun by giving a prize of a small sweet for every time she goes up a ladder or down a snake! :) even if mummy has to cheat a little LOL :rotfl:

Hope this helps,
Luv Audrey.

Personnaly I stay away from sweets etc as the sugar overload may be far too much for my DS (nearly 3).
I will pack raisins, cereal bars, plain animal biscuits (all from the Organix range), grapes, apples, bananas and loads of water. Thankfully my DS is a fruit fiend and will not be upset with no sweets.
For me I and DH we tend to eat the fruit rather than sweets etc as we are normally not that hungry anyway.
Also make sure you pack the obligitory colouring/sticker books, reading books, crayons, play doh, little games and I also take DS own blanket with me.

yeah we are gonna take her blanket has well becouse i heard it gets cold on the plane, thanks for the tips anymore tips is welcome...

I think we will take some fruit has my DD likes fruit alot

We usually take Pringles (plain & S&V), minstrals/cadbury shots & chewy sweets like Haribo. We also have some water. We stopped taking fruit as even though we had eaten it the hounds at the airport kept stopping at our hand luggage & made us go through the baggage check. It happened 3 times.

My boys are 3 & 4 & enjoy sticker books, comic books, colouring books, playing cards & will watch the movie for half an hour. They also tend to have half an hours kip at least. That coupled with 10 trips to the loo & a good walk round the plane use up the 9 hours.

I think it depends on what time your flight is, it was cool when we set off at about 7.30 pm one time back from Sanford. This last time was fine but it was an earlier flight (2.15 pm). Which is a rather jumbled up way of saying you may not need a blanket. I am just thinking of your packing. On every flight I have been on there have been blankets available both ways. What we did was to wear teeshirts with light fleeces over them on the flights.

I took loads of things to do on that first flight when DS was only 5, most of it he didn't use and I am sure the bag would have been well over the 5 kg weight allowance on hold luggage, fortunately, it was not wayed back then (1996).

I think puzzle books, colouring books, magazines, that type of thing. There is not that much room on a plane and it becomes a bit of a strain having to lift bags up from the floor every time they want to do something different. We like playing Uno which is a small card game.

To be honest my kids have never been bored. I think it is probably due to the excitement of going to Orlando that just being on a plane is entertainment enough. From 5 to 11 years old they both slept a lot coming back in any case. This year they were wide awake for both journeys but they were 14 and 16 so that is to be expected. The great thing about this flight was I didn't have to entertain them, they could entertain themselves which made my flight a bit easier.

We have a 6 and 12 year old boys...we took

Small Boxes Of Raisins
A few ceral bars
The new small tubs of pringles
2 pots of fruit and jelly
They took a few magazines and game boys but they spent quite a long time playing with Trump Cards...Hubby and I also played them but ended up sulking with each other as his rules were different to mine!!!. I just said he couldnt remember playing them when he was young as he is older than me!! :rotfl:

i will have to take some Pringles has my DD love`s them
i will be takin Small Boxes Of Raisins and A few ceral bars and alot more lol

this is really helping me thanks

I always take Pringles, cereal bars and chocloate. Ive never had a problem taking it into the States and if its not eaton on the plane its handy for the hotel room as it means if you are peckish you dont have to go all the way down to the restaurent.
