What food items can I store in my garage?

I was storing canned goods in the hot garage and the pineapple chunks & mandarin oranges ended up tasting like metal - yuck.

I wouldn't put sodas out there either - I had one explode in my truck once - not fun to clean up.

Could you invest in an extra small freezer for the garage? I put everything in the freezer - flour, sugar, baking mixes - I'm too freaked out about bugs!
