What filling goes best with strawberry cake?

Which filling would you pair it with? Whipped cream or Bavarian cream?

Oh good point. It's just a typical bakery type cake. Your response sways me to choose whipped cream filling.

I'm going to be difficult & say neither. I would use cream cheese icing. My second choice would be buttercream. The others would make the cake too sweet for me & I love desserts.

Bavarian cream is basically vanilla pudding which is not my favorite. Also does not "match" the strawberry cake. Basically, ick.

Whipped cream will be like a strawberry shortcake, which is yum.

We make a whipped cream cake with fresh strawberries, but we use yellow cake. It is divine.

I think if you're really going to use strawberry cake, either whipped cream, buttercream, or cream cheese frosting would work best. (But it's really all about what you like.)

In what world is whipped cream sweeter than either cream cheese icing or butter cream? Both of those are made with cups and cups of sugar whereas sweetened whipped cream might have 3 or 4 tbsp. - tops.

Also, what exactly is strawberry cake? I glean we're not just talking about a cake with strawberries on it.

I am SO NOT a baker.

But I would go for whipped cream with sliced strawberries and bananas. My favorite childhood cakes had fresh strawberries and bananas as a filling.

If I were going to use Bavarian cream w/ fresh strawberries between the layers, I'd make a marble or chocolate cake w/ chocolate icing & topped with whole strawberries (preferably dipped in chocolate.) At least, that's what I think of, when I thing Bavarian cream filling.

I could totally go for a slice of this or the strawberry cake right now.
