What features should I be looking for when shopping for a scanner?

I mainly want one to scan my snapshots from so I can load on to my computer and upload to my webpage.

I don't know anything about these and do not know where to begin?

I need a new scanner myself. Great question :)

I'm interested to hear what people have to say about this too.

One thing I like on my Uncle's scanner though is the little buttons that you push and it automatically tells the computer what to do. For instance, his has an e-mail button, and he puts the picture in, pushes the botton, then his e-mail automatically pops up with the picture as an attachment, and you just have to type in the e-mail address and message. And there's a botton that will make a copy too.

I just got a new scanner for my birthday about 2 months ago. DH knows I'm a techno-dork so he got me one that has three buttons, SCAN, COPY and E-MAIL. It's so easy to use if you're like me. It's a Canon CanoScan 01250.

Like I said, I AM a techno-dork though so please bear in mind that I'm only speaking as to how easy it is to use. I have no idea if it has all the bells and whistles (which I don't need).

I didn't check out the site Dan posted, but my advice would be to stick with a good brand name. DH & I bought an Epson last year for each other for C'mas. I'm very happy with both the hardware & software it came with.

However, about 3 or 4 years ago my sisters bought one for my father. They got him a "cheap" no-name scanner. ACK!! I still am banging my head against the wall with it - because he can't afford to get another. Problems in every area! The software didn't want to load. The whole system crashed repeatedly until we removed McAfee - there was a conflict. It worked fine with Norton, though. The OCR software they sent didn't work at all. I could go on & on. :(

In addition to buying a brand name, I'd suggest getting as much resolution as you can afford. Most of the features seemed to be pretty standard when I was helping my sister purchase hers recently.
