What Facebook has taught me.......

What is up with this spelling thing? Does spelling correctly make you somewhat better than those of us who cannot spell ourselves out of a paper bag?

I really want to know. I have found that, on this board, people who have nothing else to say or have run out of mean remarks, comment on others others' spelling as a last resort.

I find this petty, sad, and desperate.

Sometimes the words just don't come out right. This doesn't mean I am disabled, white trash, a low life, or "dumb". It means that maybe I am typing too fast and my fingers hit the wrong key. It can mean that maybe I don't have the visual memory skills you have. It could mean I have had too many glasses of wine. It could mean many different things. However, it has nothing to do with my character, my economic status, or my education.

Those that think that spelling ability equals how high your IQ is need to get over themselves and focus on things that really matter.

Are you serious?

My daughter who is an A student cannot spell. I cannot spell. I have a Masters degree. I do my best but sometimes, the spelling is just not right! Sorry, I guess, despite my degrees, I am "dumb". I don't know how I got this far in life not knowing how to spell.

I am sad for my daughter. Her future looks hopeless. I will disregard what her teachers say about her future and just focus on her lack of spelling ability. Who cares about spell check and all her other strengths.

By the way, punctuation counts just as much as spelling. Your inability to edit your work makes me wonder why you are so concerned with others weaknesses when you have one yourself.

I think you are taking it too personally. If the person who posted this is at all like me, they are referring to stuff like "your" spelled "ur". I don't recall anyone insulting you or your daughter. Your post was perfectly spelled (I think) and I'm sure most of your daughters work is also. Lots of people aren't great spellers:hippie:, doesn't make them dumb, but the way alot of teenages post is in lolspeak ot txt whick is foreign to most adults... couple that with a few misspellings and it seems like you are looking at idiocy.
