What extra things do you pack for summer trips?

I've never been in the summer, but so far I know I need to bring
mister spray bottles
those cooling neck wrap things (where do you find these?)
ordering bottled water for room

Freeze your water bottles---they'll stay cold longer! Refill them throughout the day!

SUNSCREEN!!!

Sunglasses and/or a hat.

I highly recommed an afternoon break for a swim back at your resort. It will cool you off and relax you. Return to the parks in the evening as the sun is setting.

I like Gold Bond's menthol cooling powder, my dh swears by it also.

And yes, the mister fans are great, especially for times when you're standing in lines and there's no air circulation!!

For summer trips I more thoroughly inspect all the clothing we bring. I intentionally buy or bring the t-shirts that we own that are the LIGHTEST colors and materials that we can. You know those t-shirts that seem like they'll only last a few washes because they're so thin? THOSE are the ones we bring on summer trips - and no navy or black - just white. Same thing with short - very light weight. I'm usually a jeans-shorts type of gal - but NO WAY in the summer.

Not sure how you feel about laundry on vacation. I happen to love to do it and not worry about bringing as much stuff. And for summer trips especially I bring laundry detergent (Purex sheets - easy to pack). In the summer we frequently go through two outfits per day - so being able to throw a load of laundry in while we're at the pool is wonderful.

Personally, I prefer just a fan (hand or battery powered) to a misting fan. Summers at WDW already are horrendously humid, and adding more humidity via a misting bottle doesn't make much sense to me. But I live in the low desert, so what do I know? *LOL*

Sunscreen, sunglasses, sun hat/cap, moleskin (apply over bandages on blisters or other uncomfortable spots), two pairs of comfortable walking shoes or sandals, light coloured and light weight clothing, something to keep hair out of face (for those with long hair).

Can't think of anything else off the top of my head.

Not my favourite time to visit WDW, but it can be done!

Don't forget ponchos in case it rains.

Light comfy clothes
Blister Bandaids
Freeze Water Bottles - Drink lots of water.
Petroleum Jelly
Extra Sunglasses
Hats
Lots of Sunscreen
Wash Clothes- Purex Sheets are great - or if you are in a regular room I used the little tide packets when we were in Europe and they worked pretty well.
Rain poncho - the cheap ones($1 or $2) or a rain jacket for the afternoon rain showers.

We also go to the Parks early, then back to the resort by 11 or 12, swim/nap, then back to the parks in the evening.

Dick's Sporting Goods has some good spray mister water bottles and the cool neck wraps. We bought our cool ties from QVC and they are wonderful. I have heard that some turn slimey in the heat, but I think those are the cheaper handmade ones you can buy from eBay. If they use plain cotton, the gooey beads can seep through between the threads if the thread count isn't high enough.

Remember to soak them as soon as you get home and through the night. That will rinse them and totally refresh and soak them. We found they were too cold if we tried to refrigerate them.

What do you use petroleum jelly for?

Haha as gross as it sounds It helps prevent any serious chafing issues that might and probably will occur when you are walking and sweating a lot it can be very painful and ruin a day, its usually worse for males. Baby powder helps too.

wearing shirts that are like under armor material really helps you stay more comfortable too

Sunscreen and extra water. If I didn't always have lip balm, I'd make a point of bringing that, too.

I should bring sunglasses and a couple hats and I'll plan to bring them...but I'll forget and have to buy more when I'm there. :)

Funny you mention this! We went this past Sept and it was 95 with 98% humidity the whole time. My husband was SO chaffed! He actually went down to the desk and bought baby powder. Totally forgot about that! I shouldn't laugh cause he was in a lot of pain. Baby powder is a new must have.

Had a similar "situation", so a little recommendation ... I went to Target and bought some of those sports briefs (look like biker shorts) and wore those... don't wear boxers or tighty whiteys :)

TM Info huh :cool2:

BTW 1 thing we ALWAYS pack for summer trips that noone has mentioned.... Patience! :scared1:

Thanks for the info! My husband is a boxer man. We are taking a trip this August, crazy I know, and I'll have to tell him about that.

Going on the assumption that it's largely the heat you're worried about (sunscreen, mister, etc. are givens until you forget them! lol), I agree with the talc. It helps prevent blisters, as does a bit of moleskin where you usually get the blisters. (Cut them to fit before you leave home, though, because you don't want to waste your time trimming little patches of moleskin every morning.)

I also recommend the thinnest freezer packs you can find. I have some that came with a sort of fake Tupperware bowl set. The bowls didn't seal very well, but I like to freeze the gel tops & pop them into my front pockets. In the miserable, sticky NYC summers, I walked every afternoon & hardly felt it.

HAVE FUN!

haha its okay for you to laugh, my GF was laughing at me when it happened to me in july after i forgot. sometimes the jelly is a better choice because if you go on a ride that you get pretty wet on the powder is no longer effective lol

Yes, definitely this :thumbsup2

And also all the other stuff mentioned in this thread: a lot of water, sunscreen, hand/wash towels (to wipe sweat from your face), ponchos, misting bottles/fans, rain cover for stroller (if applicable)

We bring a cooler, a smashable one that I can bring easily in the suitcase

We order food, snacks, waterbottles, diet coke in bottles, etc from Garden Grocer

We also order cold refreshing items from GG, like organic apple slices...you can freeze them, too.

Definitely freeze a water bottle or two every night and use as an ice pack for your cooler.

Wet wipes, can't have enough of these.

Sunglasses, hats, visors

Sunblock

small fans/misters

We had bought some of those neck tie things in the camping section at Walmart and they were very slimy and drippy. I have seen mixed reviews on Froggs Toggs chilly pads and bandanna and was thinking of them for our upcoming trip. Has anyone had an luck with those?
