What exactly DID you do at Disney? May 2011 TR (TR link pg 44)

So many beautiful pics! Caitlin is so unbelievably cute...and photogenic! :thumbsup2

I'm sorry you didn't have a better time at EPCOT. We would have so enjoyed meeting so many (rarely seen) Pixar characters. Mark and I had the most beautiful moment with Carl and Russell when we met them in 2010. Carl was very romantic about my anniversary button, which really "fit" with Carl's whole character and the heart and soul of that move, which I think is so beautiful and moving.

But you got some lovely shots, so that can't be a bad thing, right?

Wilderness Lodge Villas have that rustic charm and beauty that my family enjoys. I love the many different seating areas there. A fire going on a cold winter's day is so nice.

Test Track 3 times in a row!!! :cool1:

We need to find a smaller version of the flamingo in Mickey ears. ::yes::

They do have the pink flamingo with Mickey ears antenna topper....I have seen that. I got that flamingo too, he's in my front yard. The only thing I don't like about him, is he fades in the sun, and of course here in FL, sun is inevitable.

I do agree that Ohana would be great with a big group, I do like breakfast better than dinner there, Kona is our favorite for dinner!! I can't wait to hear more!!!

. Was I in the middle of having a meltdown or arguement? If so that was me. That was pretty much how all of our Epcot time went.

 Not that I know of. I had broken away from the group to take pictures (we were waiting for the drummers to come out in Japan). Mom, Alek, and Erich had been camping out by the front entrance to the Mitsukoshi Department Store. When I came back my Mom said that she thought she recognized you going by. She didn't mention anything about a meltdown. ;)

My DH and DS6 were the same way at Epcot, they went back after lunch to go swimming also. Everything was such a rush for them. All we did was ride nemo and Sorin, and on our way over to Canada they were giving free apple sauce out. :rotfl: I also picked up the pink flamingo with Mickey ears, I loved it and didn't want to pass it up.

I'll apologize now for just commenting on everything as I get caught up!!!

Wow that's pretty good, I can't wait to see what changed is his mind.

:lmao:I know THAT song!

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

that does NOT look like a mid size car

LOL We missed the DISmeet too... we were on a quest for food, Katie was starving despite a huge breakfast at Akershus

Looks awesome, but I have to get Joe to at least visit it first!
Tina -- :lmao::lmao:

I know exactly where we were .... on our way BACK from DHS to find out if WLR had finally gotten our room right! that was a wicked storm ...

LOL 3 whole hours, eh?

you saw some cool characters! Earlier in the day only the Incredibles were there .... I looked for other characters but saw none:confused:

Every trip is a learning experience, isn't it?
Is the train room in the Villas lobby? I have never seen it. pretty.

Joe had his alarm set for th etime you got up so he could run but he decided not to venture in that rain. it was wicked!

Katie tried this game too but I caught on fast & made sure to have fruit in my bag in case breakfast was pure junk.

WOW are our hubbies clones or something? that was totally my gripe about power walking from ride to ride with barely time to breathe. BREATHE!!!

I AM SO JEALOUS! I WISH I could have had Joe & Katie head back to the resort. why didn't I think of that?

Diane I am loving your TR!

I couldn't believe they called a Jetta a full size car. The example they gave for full size was a dodge charger, which to me looks much bigger. It worked out okay but if I had known we would have gotten a jetta I would have downgraded and stuck with a corolla or something.

AKL is awesome! You have to go there for a visit at least. Katie will love it.

I cannot believe Joe actually set his alarm for 4 am. I was up pretty early some days but it was never planned. :scared1: Such dedication!

Caitlin was really starting to annoy me with not eating breakfast and then asking for something right after. By the end of the week I just told her to suck it up and she wasn't getting anything. Then, of course I had to listen to the "I'm so hungry"whining. However I would say we could stop for a piece of fruit. Amazingly she stopped being hungry then:confused3

DH rushing through the parks was driving me insane. Maybe he thought if we did everything quickly we would get out of the parks sooner but I wanted to stroll at through the parks slowly and take it all in.

I wish I had sent them back to the room a bit more. I did feel bad sometimes b/c I want to be with my family on a family trip, but they were really getting to me. Caitlin not so much, but DH apparently really doesn't like Disney. Caitlin would probably be a bit more into everything if alone but she tends to follow what Daddy wants to do. I meant to take her to MK alone for a few hours to see how we would do on a girls only trip but we never made it.

Hi! we were just there in May as well, and my daughter is almost 6. sounds like a great start to your trip! i'd love to try the resorts as you did. my dh has the same park style as yours- gripe about having to get up early to miss the crowds, and whine when you try to slow down :lmao: Pixar weekend looks so fun! I can't wait to hear more!

I just read checked out your trip report. :thumbsup2 I am so glad others have DHs like mine. I always seem to read those trip reports where the DH has found the Disney magic and can't wait to go back. :confused3 I keep thinking if I plan the perfect trip DH will come around but I think with this trip I have accepted that Disney is just not for him.:sad2:

Sorry I'm so late, I didn't realize you'd started a TR! Excuse me while I go and catch up :thumbsup2

:wave2: Thanks for coming over.

The VWL look so nice! I'll have to check out the lobby there when I go, I've never been over there!

I'd never pick TT over Soarin! It's fun, but I would rather do Soarin any day! Brandon isn't a fan of Soarin either, he thinks if you've done it once, why do it again and again? :sad2:

Pixar weekend looks fun, I wouldn't mind going for that sometime!

I can't believe you walked around WS alone for 2 hours. I'm hoping to go to a park alone in October for a few hours, to see if I can handle it...I really want to do a solo trip someday too. Maybe one afternoon when Brandon is sleeping, I'll just go to MK or Epcot for a little while, see how it is being alone in WDW!

VWL is very cute. I liked it much more than the main lobby, the main lobby always seemed to have a billion people in it in the afternoon.

I actually do like TT, but I knew Caitlin wanted to do Soarin. The wait for Soarin gets longer faster than TT so I thought it would be smart to go get a FP and then just come back and do stand by for TT which wasn't too long. But really, what do I know about Disney strategy? It's not like I spend any time planning the trip or anything.

Pixar weekend was different than I expected. Most of the character were in a huge building together. I thought they would be spread out all over Epcot. I am actually grateful that Caitlin chose not to meet them all b/c the lines were very long by the time I walked through.

It was nice being alone for a bit. I think I could do a long weekend at some point. I think Caitlin will want to come though. I think she will be a bit better about going on rides and staying in the parks when John isn't around. I was going to take her to MK alone the last night and she really wanted to go with just me and take the buses but we ended up skipping it. I am afraid to take her alone though, I can't deal with her attitude sometimes. John says if I take her alone it will be a huge diaster. :headache:

Hi! Great TR so far, although I was shocked by the part about turning to the back of a mystery to know who did it all along. I'll definitely stick around to see how AKL came to be your favorite, though.

Pixar weekend looks pretty cool. I'm glad you got to stay and enjoy some alone time. :thumbsup2

I've actually been reading through your trip report, but haven't joined in yet. I am usually exhausted by the time I read through your day. I don't know how you manage. I have told DH multiple times that when or if we have another kid we will start taking the kid around 1. You make it look so easy, but it still scares me a bit.

I stumbled upon your TR as I was browsing through the TR thread. Then as I read along, I see tons of your readers are people I've come to know! So I thought, why not join in here too? Love the start. I'm sorry to hear that DH kinda rushed you through everything. You have every right to have felt upset. I'm so glad you finally got a bit of solo time at Epcot.

WL/VWL is a personal resort favourite. I stayed at VWL during the holiday season and it was gorgeous. The train room was exactly how you described you'd like it to be during christmas time (minus the snow outside of course).

Thanks for joining.

We did end up having some really good days, but they were outside of Disney. I just keeping thinking it just isn't possible to not like Disney, so maybe if I plan right he will enjoy it more. I learned this trip that he just isn't going to be converted.

WL must be amazing during the holiday season. I always wanted to save it for when we go during Dec. but it somehow just found it's way into this trip. I think I would have really enjoyed it with all of the decorations. It is a very pretty resort.

I'm subbing in too. I just randomly found your report last night and just got caught up. You have some great pictures of WL!

I know how it is to feel rushed and be questioning why you are rushing. I feel bad that you keep getting out voted. If I were you, I would establish a few "overide" moments that you can use at any time. That way, you know you could get what you want a couple of times and they couldn't argue. ;)

I would love to eat at Ohana for breakfast sometime. It looks delicious.

:laughing:Welcome to my life. I am always outvoted. DH and DD are super close and many times it feels like it is 2 against one. DD is pretty much a mini version of DH but in a dress. They usually have the same likes and dislikes so it is rare that Caitlin will want to do what I want to do. She is starting to say she would like to do a girls only trip since Daddy doesn't like Disney.

We are hoping to add to our family soon and I have these dreams of it finally being 2 against 2 but DH is convinced they will take over that child and it will just be 3 against 1. I think I would move to taking solo trips if that happens.

'Ohana is very good. We'll probably skip it next time, but only b/c I really want to try Kona.

So many beautiful pics! Caitlin is so unbelievably cute...and photogenic! :thumbsup2

I really wanted to get a picture of Caitlin with the Up characters, but they left before I checked out the Pixar building. I was surprised see didn't want to meet more characters, b/c last year we spent a lot of time waiting to get pics and autographs. She realized on our last weekend that we haven't seen any characters or gotten any autographs. Little late for that now.

::yes::

I think I would like WL much better in the winter. Sitting in front of a fireplace when it is really 100 degrees out just doesn't seem right to me:laughing:

If only we could have had kept that excitement for some other rides. We did it about 3 times in 1 hour. Then, we rode no more rides that day:confused3

They do have the flamingo as an antenna top which I saw all over the place.

My mom saw the statement about fading in the sun. It is a lawn ornament, isn't it supposed to be in the sun. She put it under a tree, so hopefully it won't fade too quickly.

Yum, I would love to try Kona for dinner and breakfast.

She didn't mention anything about a meltdown. ;)

Oh okay, I tried to refrain from completely losing it since I knew so many Disers would be around that week. Otherwise there probably would have been a lot of this:sad:

Just kidding, I did have some moments that I got very annoyed but I just filed it away to make the next trip better. Not going to waste my time being miserable.

I do wish I had run into your family. I would have ditched mine to hang out with yours, then at least I would be able to say I had some fun in Epcot this trip.

I got that free applesauce too, but never tried it.

I didn't mind the swimming. I had left a pretty big chunk each day b/c I knew DD wanted to go in the pool everyday. My issue was that when we were in the parks we weren't doing anything I wanted to do. (Wow, I sounded about 5 there) Then, we would say we would hit the parks at night and rarely ever did. :headache:

Darn it, you got the flamingo too? I should have gotten it. I wonder if my mom would notice it missing from her yard and somehow appearing in mine.

I just read checked out your trip report. :thumbsup2 I am so glad others have DHs like mine. deja vu

I did stay at MK w Katie our last night after fireworks. Made me wish for more hours like those.

I'm not caught up yet, but I'm here! Will try to read pages 4-3,789,473 later when I have more free time. :lmao::rotfl2:

I missed a few updates - I'll have to check back more often!!
I LOVE that train room. You have me wanting to go back to the WL so bad. Now I want to stay in the villas so I can see the train room - my DH is a railroader!

Pixar Weekend looked awesome, I can't believe your DD wanted to swim instead. I'm glad you stayed though, because if you went back to the pool with them you would've probably sulked (if it was me, I know I would've!)

I just read checked out your trip report. :thumbsup2 I am so glad others have DHs like mine. Don't hate me....I'm one of those DH's that has the magic! :rolleyes1

In my case, DW, DS(27), DS(27) & DD(23) enjoy the trip but want little or nothing to do with planning, scheming and plotting! I'm not complaining. I just ask them if there is anything in particular they want to do or a certain restaurant they wish to visit and I go from there. Since two of the three "kids" are out of the house and the third will be soon, our trips are a family trip every other year and just DW and I every year. Not that I plan too much but in the works are...
Oct, 2011 - Hilton Head Island (DW & I)
May, 2012 - Villas at Wilderness Lodge (Kids and BF/GF's)
Sep, 2012 - Aulani (DW & I - 30th Anniversary)
Sep, 2103 - Boardwalk Villa (DW & I - F&W)
:lmao:

I wish I was back there right now. I'm starting to settle back into reality and already I am ready for a vacation. Everything around the house is breaking this week and then my car decided to die the other day. I am hoping I just need a new battery b/c I am not looking forward to any large car repair bills right now.:scared:

AKL is awesome. I can see why you like it so much. Kidani is a new resort to you isn't it?

There are still a few resorts I would like to try but I might save those for times when DH doesn't come with us or since Sat. night costs so much more just do a one night stay in a value or moderate before moving to AKL.

The only think I didn't love was those people in the lobby with the red shirts in the early evening. The lobby was always packed with them. Are those DVC reps or something?

I didn't notice any red shirt people in the lobby in the evenings. Were they Disney people or a huge group of people visiting and dresses all alike?

We've never stayed at Kidani, but we visit it and spend quite a bit of time at it each trip since it's so close to the Lodge. I don't know that I would ever stay there though b/c it's so far from most of the restaurants.

I COMPLETELY forgot to hit up the caramel shop while in EPCOT. :headache: and I didn't even realize it until I got home. Man was I pissed. Great job making a planning journal Melissa and writing down that you wanted to visit the caramel shop, but then not reading it the days we were in EPCOT so I totally forgot about it!

And again, I know what you mean about the constant bugging about going back to the pool. Really? We are in Disney in case you didn't notice! I totally let my crew go back to the resort one day while I meandered around a park by myself too...but I won't tell you which one yet. You'll have to keep reading my TR to find out! ;)

Hello, and welcome to my 2nd trip report. We have been home for a few days and it is still a bit tough for me to even process this whole trip. DH and DD had a pretty good time. DH even said he enjoyed this trip more than last year. Did I? I don’t know yet. I guess I’ll figure it out by the end of this trip report.
Anyway, I’m getting ahead of myself again.

This is us at Discovery Cove.

Introductions-
Me- Diane
I am a 28 year old x-ray technologist. This was my 8th trip to Disney. If I had it my way we would be DVC owners with APs.
DH-John
He is 30 years old and works full time at his city job and has a small lawn care business he does on the side. This is his 5th trip. He went once as a kid and has stated that would have been enough if I didn’t force him to go all the time.

Caitlin
How do you describe your child in a paragraph? She is a super sweet, 6 year old girl. There are times that you just want to pick her up and squeeze her b/c she is so adorable. And then, there is that other 90% of the time. She is full of attitude and likes to get her way. DH and DD have the same personality and likes/dislikes so I am pretty much always outvoted on everything.
DisneyMay2011onSony294.jpg

This is our 2nd family trip, with the last one being in May of 2010. When we came home last May, I had that feeling that I just had to return. I started planning on going back in Oct. 2011. DH reluctantly agreed after daily begging. Then, I decided maybe we could go in Feb. 2011 so I could do the Princess Half Marathon. Once the weather started getting colder I decided there was no way I would keep up the training once winter came so I moved our trip to May of 2011. Why May? Star Wars Weekend, if course. Caitlin discovered SW last year and become obsessed. She simply had to come back to see Leia and Luke. Unfortunately her SW love died down over time and she had pretty much no interest in attending SWW this year by the time the trip came.

Your little girl dressed as Princess Leia is too cute :goodvibes

sadly the whole room screw up caused Joe to lose some of his magic..that was a big part of the issue.

I saw on your thread that had everything been great at WL Joe would probably want to stay there each time. Maybe it all happened for a reason. Do you know any other resorts you really want to try?

I still can't believe the whole mess with your rooms. I knew that my constantly switching of rooms could go very wrong and ruin the trip but thankfully we didn't have any issues with the changing until the last day.

I wish I had taken Caitlin to MK that last night for EMH but we had a great view of Illuminations from our balcony and I figured we would probably never get that again, so we hung out in SAB and watched the fireworks from our room instead.

I'm not caught up yet, but I'm here! Will try to read pages 4-3,789,473 later when I have more free time. :lmao::rotfl2:

Thanks for coming over.It is so hard to keep up with everyone, isn't it?

I missed a few updates - I'll have to check back more often!!
I LOVE that train room. You have me wanting to go back to the WL so bad. Now I want to stay in the villas so I can see the train room - my DH is a railroader!

I am trying to update often b/c I can't be one of those people who drag this out. With no trip in the works I don't think I want to be thinking about this trip for months out. Plus, my car is in the shop so I can't go anywhere. Hopefully I'll get it back today.

The room is very cute. I looked the train on the fireplace screen. If I had a fireplace I would want that screen. The train stuff is very subtle. If I hadn't seen it mentioned on the villa thread I wouldn't have noticed all the train stuff.

I wish we had gotten more out of Pixar weekend. Caitlin was so excited about seeing the characters last year, but was pretty much over it this year. She loved seeing them at breakfast but wasn't waiting in a line to meet anyone.

Don't hate me....I'm one of those DH's that has the magic! :rolleyes1

If you are trying to make me jealous, you have done a very good job! I keep trying to plan the perfect trip so DH will fall in love with Disney but I just don't think it will happen. He would love to go to Aulani though. I don't even want to think about how much that trip will cost though.

I have mentioned to DH that I think DVC would be a great option if he really wants to stay at AKL every trip and he doesn't think we'll use it enough. :confused3 My DD is only 6 and already I imagine bringing her children to Disney.

I didn't notice any red shirt people in the lobby in the evenings. Were they Disney people or a huge group of people visiting and dresses all alike?

The people in the red shirts were spread out and each one seemed to be meeting someone. Maybe it was some type of convention or something.

I can't believe you missed the caramel shop. I wanted to go back again but never made it. I wrote down a bunch of stuff to do, but never actually looked at the list either.

You sent the family back too? I just didn't get it. I had planned for a few hours of pool time each day and Caitlin still whined about going to the pool. Then, once she was out of the pool she wanted to go back on the rides.

Your little girl dressed as Princess Leia is too cute :goodvibes

Thank you. I tried to get her to smile but according to her Princess Leia does not smile, she is serious.

Just wondering.. is Eve Dallas your name?

After DH and DD finished up in the pool we all head back in to the room for a bit. It was about 4pm and we had to be at ‘Ohana for dinner at 6:15. It was too early to head to the Poly but not really enough time to do anything. Once again Caitlin was bored and started to whine.

We decided to take a walk around WL and check out the quiet pool and beach area.

DisneyMay2011onSony202.jpg

(I took this picture later in the trip)

Caitlin was acting very grumpy and kept bothering me about taking pictures.
I just don’t get why it bothered her if I took pictures, it wasn’t like I made every stop and pose. I rarely asked them to stop, in the parks many of my pictures I took still walking.

When I first looked into booking WL I thought the pool looked a bit small but it was actually very nice. It might get a bit crowded in the summer though. DH and DD agreed that it had the best slide out of the 3 places we stayed. It doesn’t look like much but it does have a little tunnel.

The quiet pool by the villas was great. It was so relaxing and there was hardly ever anyone there. It was also a little bit warmer than the large pool which was nice since our first few nights were a bit chilly.

DisneyMay2011onSony145.jpg

We sat at the beach for a bit. I was enjoying just relaxing but Caitlin was not having it. She wanted to DO something. DH tried to get her to play in the sand, but she whined through that too.

DisneyMay2011onSony153.jpg

She was either whining that there was nothing to do, but then when she was in a park she whined that she wanted to go back to the hotel. I guess she really just wanted to spend the whole time in the pool.

Finally it reached a point where we could head over to the Poly.

We checked in a were seated pretty quickly. We finally got a different table than our other 3 visits. DH asked to have a different table, so I wonder if we would have gotten the same one again if we hadn’t.

Much needed at this point

DH thought it would be funny to take a bunch of picture while I ate dessert. He wanted me to be able to make a flip book. I ended deleting most of them though. No one wants to see themselves eating.

Caitlin was annoyed with the situation and asked why he was taking a picture of me stuffing my face? So DH took one of her too.

After ‘Ohana I agreed to just go back to WL and go in the pool with Caitlin. She wanted me to try out the slide. I originally wanted to go to MK for EMH but I figured I would be able to do those on our last night.

We spend a little time in the main pool, but it was too cold for me. I went down the slide a few times and then we all spent some time in the hot tub. After the hot tub we head over to the villa pool which was much warmer than the main pool and pretty empty. We headed back to the room where we watched some TV and Caitlin worked on her vacation journal.

I agree with Caitlin. It was a very boring day. Next trip I am not going to worry about what everyone else wants to do so much. I should have just headed over to EMH by myself but I really wanted to go with DH and Caitlin on our last night. Lesson learned: never say you will do something later in the trip. You probably won’t and then you will just be mad that you missed it.
