What everyone think about the new policies for DDP?

I've always wondered why it didn't just say on the reservation letter Disney sends out "Dining plan added." Wouldn't that solve all the problems and the need to prepay for the Dining plan?

It is funny that you say this. The last renter I had wanted me to add the DDP to her reservation. I do so about a month ago. I got another conformation letter for her reservation. I didn't notice any mention of the DDP on it, but I figured that adding the DDP is what triggered mailing the conformation letter. May that is what they will do when the new policy comes into effect. Or did they do that in the past when a DDP is added?

As someone who has been a HUGE DDP user in the past, with the changes that they are making in 2011, I think we're finally at the point where we'll be passing on the DDP. BUT, if we ever do add it, we'll do as others have suggested and just add it a couple days before we travel. No biggie there. :thumbsup2

so once you add it to the reservation and pay for it, you can't remove it? Even if you cancel the reservation, you still have to pay for DDP? That's how it works with the food and wine bookings. Even if you don't go, you can't cancel them.

That makes no sense.

This will only matter if you are trying to book CRT or a dinner show without prepaying in full. For any other reservation it makes no difference whether you are on the dining plan or not at the time you book.

Hopefully I was given wrong info. But that was what I was told. I am sure with anything new it will need some tweaking.

What are the requirements for cancelling the dinner package with Candlelight?

For renters they could always get a prepaid Visa gift card at Target or Walmart with the needed amount on it and then use that card for the DDP. What I am wondering is will they allow members to buy a specific number of days for the DP so you do not have to purchase it for the entire trip. That scenario would work great for us due to we always eat out about 3 nights out of our 7 so if we purchased 2 DxDP then we would have more than enough meals for all 4 of us.

I don't see it being a problem, unless your guest is not comfortable sharing a credit card with you. if there not they can got without it..... You always see people at check in fighting over having it or not prepay takes that all away, and may speed up check in a little

I wish they would get rid of the DDP. It has de-graded the restaurants and now it seems the food it almost the same from restaurant to restaurant. Take it back to the way it was before, I'm willing to pay the extra money.

I think this is going to be a big rental hiccup. It would certainly make me think twice as a renter about the dining plan. It is evident they are tring to curve renting a bit.. as it does take away some of there cash bis.

As an owner.. I really wouldn't care.

Me too...but they won't. People LOVE the dining plan. Disney loves it too. If you don't use all your credits, you're giving them money.

I do sort of wonder why they are doing this. So DVC reservations will be just like cash reservations? To throw a wrench in renting? Because DVC members complained about not being able to pay ahead? Because of disputes at check-in about whether it was added or not?

All good questions. I do think it is a way for Disney to decrease renting of points and to receive money sooner. It would be a huge amount of money they would receive months in advance (in some cases) of check in.

I'm sorry if this has been asked and answered already. I am renting in November and the owner has already set up ddp for me back in August.
Will I be able to pay on arrival for it? I'm not sure if I should have the owner call to verify this.

You will be able to pay when you get there.:wizard:

Can cash guests now choose to have a partial DDP like owners now can? If not, then there is a potential bonus service owners can offer renters.

they will have to ask for the money up front. I do rent my points on occasion, so this will add a bit more work on my side and risk.

Anyone know under the new prepay system, can you still use Disney Visa Reward Points to pay for your DDP?
