We used to get great deals renting through National's Emerald Aisle Club at MCO. Does anyone know if they discontinued leisure fares since merging with Alamo

They have always been a sister company to Alamo, they just combined stations when Vanguard bought them.
Now that that history lesson is over :), you can still get really good deals with Emerald Club by using codes and coupons. WWW.mousesavers.com has a bunch. Really, the only advantage to being a member of the EC is the fact that all your information is on record, saves time. Never really gave you any discounts and of course, you do have the advantage of the Emerald Aisle for intermediate EC rentals.

There are no good deals anymore.
Right now I am paying triple what I paid for January and Feburary last year.

When are you going? And, I am sure you are checking the rates as you get closer to your trip.

For my recent trips, I usually paid between $100 and $125 for a week with National EA. I am at WDW this week and the lowest I could get from National was around $250. I'm paying $161 with Alamo. I got a nice 2007 Malibu, 544 miles on it at pickup.

wow, that is a lot. Maybe they are up cause of the food and wine festival.
Glad you got a nice car.

There are still deals to be had at off-peak travel times, but what they will be will depend on a number of factors. For instance, because of the jump in fuel prices, there was a period there at the end of summer when SUV's were going very cheap -- the FL rental stations have lots of them, but no one wanted them when gas was well over $3/gl.

Bargain bets for holiday periods of any kind are off now; travel has finally fully rebounded, and the rates you could get after the 9/11 panic are gone for good.

Sign up for Alamo's Hot Deals weekly newsletter. A lot of what I used to get from National seems to come from Alamo these days as far as good deals. If you join their QuikSilver program you get a lot of the benefits of EA to avoid the lines. On a trip a few weeks back, the weekend deals had a Chevy Cobalt or similar for $64 for a 3 day weekend and of course Alamo was out of them when we arrived (National had plenty on their aisle though) and we got a Chevy Monte Carlo for the same rate.

Oh you could not begin to imagine. :surfweb:

I just changed my EA reservation for the 3rd time. I wanted the 2nd driver free, so I changd from 5125601 (AMEX) to 6100120 (AARP). Arriving 10/28 for 7 days, intermediate, using the Ent $20 Coupon, $179.55. A compact was $171.78. I know Dollar is cheaper, but I am close to getting another free day, so I wanted to stay with National.

I originally had $166.95 for a compact using AMEX and $20 coupon, but I wanted the 2nd driver free.

Don't know if you are travelling with a spouse, but the second driver is automatically free for Emerald Club members if the second driver is a spouse.

I check the rate at national using the carlson travel code #5760339 and the $20.00 weekly code for the dates you have posted and got a full size for 166.06 you can try to print the 2 car upgrade coupon to get a larger car but I have found that the 5760339 code saves me the most and when combined with other coupons on the national website gives the best rate good luck

I'm with AllyBri, the good rates are long gone. My last trip I had a intermediate for 2 weeks for $347, last year the same car costed a little over $200. I check daily-- morning, afternoon, and evening. I never go during busy times and even this September, during the slower times, folks still were not getting great rates. AllyBri, like myself, have been around the boards for a long time and are pros at renting cars and getting a good rate, but the good rates are just not there. I've been watching for my first week of February rental time (not anywhere near the holiday) and the base rate for an intermediate is over $200. I even have 2 free day coupons to apply. I live for threads on the transportation board that say "national rates have dropped...." we use to see them often, now rarely. Out of my four trips to WDW this year, I rented from Alamo twice, which now means I lost my Executive Aisle status for 2007 -- didn't make my 40 days of rental cars (in the past I'm usually between 50-60), so will be back at the Emerald Aisle status...bummer, first time in several years.

And the air fares are starting to climb. Business travel is starting to increase along with fuel cost.

HOLY COW!!!!! This code just saved me $80!!! Is this a code anyone can use? My intermediate car with the coupon and this code is $124 (was 204 with previous code/coupon). I am Emerald Club Member so I assume I can pick any car off the aisle at MCO.

Isn't 5760339 the Carlson code. There's some info on it on moussavers. I think it's a travel company.

Glad I was able to help I have used and read many posts on this could and never was question about it and never read anywhere that anyone was questioned. almost like the walmart code. I have read that if you use any coupon codes you should keep a hard copy of the coupon and ressie just in case. I have never been asked.

It is a travel agency code but if you have any additional info from mousesavers could you post. I searched and was unable to come up with any info other than walmart. I found this code at a travel forum. : :) 2

I looked and it looks like mousesavers took the info off regarding this travel code. It use to be a great code to use because you didn't have to pay the concession fees, but that changed last year. I actually registered with the tavel company when using this code, but not sure what their status is anymore. I remember that many of us had used the carlson code and when we checked our reservations online, the rate had changed to a higher amount. I personally would use it again if I got a decent rate with it, but that is JMHO.
