DS10 has Asperger's and can't stand the noise levels at so many attractions. I want to get him a decent pair of earplugs.

I don't mind spending the money so he enjoys his trips more, but am on a budget.

I tried some last year (not expensive), but can't remember what kind and it was a waste of time and money. They didn't block very little noise.

Also, any that come on straps (necklace type) so he doesn't lose them?

He's either had to miss out on events (not only at Disney) because of noise, and I hate to see him try to endure noises with his hands over his ears all the time.

Thanks

DS has earplugs everywhere we go. We first tried some good ones at WDW, we got them at first aid. Because his ear canals are so small we needed the kind you roll tight and they expand after they are in. The harder ones did not work and bothered him. These are Silencio Foam. Sold through welder or hunting locations. I buy in bulk but am sure you could go to sport goods stores, especially ones that deal in hunting and get them in smaller quantity. All the ones we tried from Walmart etc never worked as good as these. They stay so tight, even on rides, that the string was not necessary. I like that they are cheaper and disposable so that if they fell or anything, straight to trash and a clean pair.

We've had great luck with just the earplugs you can get at CVS/drugstore. They are the foam ones. They're just individual ones and not on a cord. You just mush them up, put in the canal and then they expand. Super simple/cheap. We use them at WDW at us parents use them at shows/concerts(we're getting old!). Buy tons of them just to keep on hand and not worry about losing them.

Thanks everyone. Here's hoping something will work for him.

Try this site http://www.etymotic.com. Under hi fi earplugs you will find the ones that use the cords. These reduce sound about 20db. Some of the foam types will block up to 33db which can almost totally block out converstations. Also some of the longer foam plugs can go to far into the ear. I use Flents Quiet Please foam, white cylindrical plugs, which are shorter than most of the other foam type. If you have a music store nearby, check with them - they may carry a selection.

We use Mack's Pillowsoft Earplugs that we buy at Wal-Mart. They seem to work really well for our DD9. She even pulls them out of my purse and puts them in herself sometimes. She thinks they work well. She says they don't block out all the noise, but I think they just soften the sound for her. Good luck!
