After reading a prior post I would like to ask this question "What DVC resort
do you think has the best housekeeping?

From what I see when I visit a DVC resort Old Key West has the best housekeeping, from the cleaniness of the room to the animal sculptured
towels that are placed on our bed when we walk in. At least for me Bravo to the housekeeping staff at OKW.

I have been on these boards for quite a few years and have seen good and bad reports about mousekeeping at every single DVC. The only pattern I have noticed is that there are more complaints now than there were 10 years ago. Of course there are more members and more DISers posting also. Still, I think there is a certain amount of luck (or misfortune) involved in whether or not you get a spotless room. I can say that we have never had a major problem, and have always had towel creatures. But the law of averages tells me that some day it will be our turn to have a less than clean room, at which point I will contact the mousekeeping manager and make sure that the problems are dealt with on the spot. BTW, I also contact the mousekeeping manager when I get a room that has been especially well cleaned.

We're talking about human beings, here.

There are good housekeepers and bad housekeepers. Even the good ones have bad days.

Guests depart late.

Rooms get missed for a variety of reasons.

There is no Disney conspiracy to put all of the bad employees at one resort. And even if you could somehow measure which resort had the poorest performance, that distinction is likely to change in a week or a month or 6 months.

Regardless of what impression you get from Internet forums, the number of poor housekeeping reports is extremely small. There are 3000-4500 DVC villas in service these days, depending upon how you want to count the lock-offs. And even if the average length of stay is 7 days (which it's probably shorter), that means 3000-4500 families entering a DVC villa every week. The 2 or 3 or 10 poor reports you may see on the DIS in a week's time really doesn't say anything about the overall quality of service.

Bottom line is you should expect a clean, well-maintained room. If you don't get it, go to the front desk and politely (but firmly) discuss with a manager what steps will be taken to rectify the issues.

We've stayed at OKW, AKV, and GCV and there wasn't a noticable difference in the quality of Mousekeeping.

We have stayed at all of the WDW resorts numerous times over the years and we have had problems at all of them. Problems have increased in the last couple of years and I would say that we have some type of issue 2 out of 3 stays each year.

Sometimes the issue is very minor like trash found when you pull out the sofa bed or kitchen dishes not being washed properly. Our last visit we had to wait for the room until 6:30 PM to find out that the room was never cleaned even though a CM said that it was.

Trash not emptied, carpets not vacuumed, bathrooms not cleaned are the most common problems.

I have stayed at all of the on-property DVC resorts with the exception of BLT, and several of them multiple times. I have only stayed in a couple of rooms that I would have considered pretty close to spotless. The rest were clean and acceptable. The dirtiest was BWV, and I only call it out for the following reason...

Decor hides a multitude of sins. SSR, OKW and BCV have light colors, but BWV is the lightest. With white cabinets/appliances and light floors, it's more difficult to keep it looking really clean. In contrast, you'd have to look long and hard to find "dirt" in AKV and VWL. Everything is darker and hides more. I think the bathrooms are all about the same, as they are all lighter colors (except the floors). Oh...and sometimes Mousekeeping forgets the microwaves and pull-out beds! ;)

When we walked into BWV, I could see dried food/liquid on the cabinets, and the kitchen floor had been cleaned, but had a couple of spots on it. I ran some soapy water in the sink and wiped down the cabinets and cleaned up the spots on the floor. It took me all of 10 minutes. I know, many people may say they don't pay dues to clean, but it truly wasn't a big deal. Overall, I really can't complain about Mousekeeping and think they do a pretty good job! :thumbsup2

I am curious. Yes, there are bad housekeepers, and some housekeepers have bad days. But I wonder how much is us. What I mean is...well, years ago when we first bought, the resorts were new...we were excited...etc. Now, after x number of visits, and years of wear...well, I think you get my point. No, I am not trying to start a war. I am just wondering. I do find myself getting grumpy at times too :confused3

I have to agree with TJ, but based on our personal experiences at all DVC resorts, SSR hands down has been the best for us. We have never gotten a room there, that was less than spotless.

The rooms at other resorts that were less than that, we have also done what TJ suggested and within minutes it was taken care of.

DVC resorts run at a very high occupancy. We wanted to extend a day this past weekend at SSR and they were totally sold out and I am sure all the others were too. So sometimes with high occupancy levels and reduced staff, stuff gets missed.

It is a shame that those making these decisions to reduce staff are never the ones to get the blame when rooms are not spotless.

I think that WDW housekeeping is under constant pressure to get rooms cleaned/turned around in less time -

The worst offenders that make our list:
Hair in the bathroom floor
Soap Scum in the soap dish/shelf in the shower
Dust/dirt behind furniture (Sofa and beds being the top offenders)
Dirt/smudges on walls
Toothpaste on bathroom mirrors and fixtures

We always have clean fresh smelling towels - that's one big way to tell if a hotel is cutting corners (stale odor, holes in towels, discolored)

Another way to tell if a hotel is cutting corners is the quality of bed linens.

One major pet peeve that I have with almost all Disney resorts is their use of stiff, cheap, and unattractive polyester bed spreads! They are awful! And I mean they are by far the WORST of any hotel I have ever visited.

Sorry for my rant!

IMO we are part of the problem. We don't want to be confrontational and hold Disney to higher standards so the standards slip. We make excuses for the employees and lower our expectations and accept mediocre performance. We also insist on tipping Mousekeepers who work in a non tipped position at Disney. I may be complaining that they could have done a better job and the guy next door is giving them money for doing the job that they are already being paid for with our dues. Talk about a mixed message.

DVC bedding is certainly not as nice as the deluxe resorts. While we really like SSR, we stayed at the Yacht Club before our DVC stay and the bedding at the Yacht Club was much nicer. White duvet cover, high quality sheets and a much nicer mattress.

DVC overall offers larger rooms and that is good, but the quality of bedding is no where as nice as the deluxe resorts. I was hoping after seeing BLT get duvet covers, they would replace the bedding in all DVC resorts as they rehabbed them. But they did not do this when they rehabbed the rooms at OKW, so I guess not.

Maybe DVC should make housekeeping into a "tipped" position? Dirty room... no tip, Clean room... tip, you then will see cleaner rooms, human nature.

I should add I am one of those irresponsible people who tip. I am also one of those people who never had a problem with housekeeping (knock on wood).
I praise them and thank them whenever I see them, you will be amazed on how much a little kindness makes their day.

PS I also don't leave behind a big mess when I check out.

The Mousekeepers don't work for DVC, they work for Disney Resorts and the tipped position issue is contractual between Disney Resorts and the Mousekeepers Unions. If they did work for the DVC, maybe we would get better service or have the ability to add additional Mousekeepers.
