I really regret not buying a DS on my last trip to Florida so I am thinking of buying one of the new red ones. I really fancy some of the mind games and the new cooking game! I am not very good at platform games although mario kart looks excellent and we have that for the Wii. DH asks have I not enough to keep me busy with two small children to look after and all the DISin I do!:rotfl:

What are your favourite DS games?

We have got cooking mama 2 and its brilliant ! it keeps my two amused and thats not easy !

We also have nintendogs and dd loves looking after her puppy and being able to call her, so i would reccomend that :)

Brain Training is good.so is super mario bros, i also love playing the little mermaid. i have to buy a red one as my ds droped his on thursday and broke the top corner that keeps the top screen attached even though it still works i'll get him a new one (as it's his birthday in 2 weeks) and hopefully i'll be able to fix his white one and keep it for myself. We do have lots more but these are my favourites.

It does look nice i saw it in a game shop on monday and you could trade in your old ds and get a new for £40 i was considering it then so i suppose it was meant to be:goodvibes

I got mine from Florida last time the game i love is called " Break em all" its a kind of Tetris game and very addictive.

we have loads but kids love cooking mama 2 and disney friends.

Another vote for Cooking Mama/ 2 and the Brain Training games.
Some of the games I'm loving at the moment are:
1. Disney Friends - you can complete different activities (such as colouring/ finding certain objects/ making music) with a host of different Disney characters.

2. Animal Crossing - you "live" in a town with other animals where you can fish/ collect fossils/ catch bugs/ buy and sell turnips (aka the "stork" market:rotfl2: ) and earn money to pay off your mortgage and get a bigger house. It is so addictive that it takes over your life tho :lmao:

3. Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games which is basically a whole collection of minigames involving athletic events, but as well as gaining medals in tournaments, you're give missions to achieve (such throwing the javelin between 60-70m) which adds extra depth.

4. Elite Beat Agents which is a cross between a puzzle and dance game. You have to imput certain commands on the touch screen in time to the song. There's some well known tracks that you play along to and the story that goes along with it is very tongue-in-cheek.

5. Thrillville: off the rails. Basically you run your own themepark by completing various minigames, which can be puzzle/ logic/ reaction based or are based on popular themepark stall games (such as rc racing, air hockey, mini golf etc). There's a lot of content but it's got a very gentle learning curve for a new/ casual gamer.

(As you can tell, I'm a bit of a games geek - I even had to take a detour to Walmart during the last hol. just to buy as DS game which was exclusive to the store! )

Have fun shopping :goodvibes

My Fiancé is a computer games addict, but I got hopelessly hooked to the DS! I have a huge collection of games.... My top 5 are (In no particular order!):

1. Pokemon Diamond- I adore this game!! It's surprisingly addictive, and not one to be sniffed at! Plus, all the Pokemon are sooooo cute!

2. Cooking Mama- I really love this game as I'm seriously into cooking... Although I do find the fire in her eyes somewhat menacing!

3. Trauma Centre: Under the Knife- Not as gory as it sounds! Just a bit tricky... Not one to do on the bus unless you want to cause some nasty marks on your patients!!

4. Animal Crossing- I don't know, There's just something about running errands for animals and doing deals with a racoon that just appeals to me!!

5. Rune Factory- It's basically like Harvest Moon, but a bit cooler as it's all a bit more mystical!

I also love Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, it's not mine though, it's my fiancés.... He's annoyed that I have beaten his highest records (I have 100.139m on the Javelin using Knuckles, and 94.432m on the Hammer throw using Vector...).... And we both loved 'Professor Layton and the Curious Village', which is puzzle solving, and very highly addictive. It certainly filled the journey to and from DLRP (Which was a full day each way!)!!

Thanks for all the replies sounds as though there are lots of fun games to choose from!

my DD loves nintendogs and I play it alot to when she is at school.

I reserve the DS Lite for thinking and activity games. I use my psp and ps3 for games.

Currently have Brain Training, More Brain Training, Sight Training, Learn French , Word Coach and Solitaire. Just bought Cooking Guide and My Health Coach. I wouldn t call them games, more like brain enhancements. The latter two are my favourites.

We're not gamers at all - the only consoles we have are soft hacked as media players :rotfl: meaning I have a cupboads full of xbox joystick thingys and steering wheels that never get used.....
Just out of interest, I assume some of your children play with DS' - what age do they start? Eldest hasn't asked for one yet (shes rising 5) but she's started asking if my laptop is a DS?!?! Bless her, there must be kids at school talking about theirs.....
My friends bought her DD one for her 5 birthday but I'm not sure I want her to get into it - I think shes too young, shes really sporty and active and I want to keep it that way!

My DD is 6 and we got her one in April, I was going to get her one last year however they cost more than I was willing to pay at the time. I wouldn't say she less active though, she plays with her skipping rope, hula hoop, footballs etc still. I don't see the difference between a game and a DVD tbh.

This one is for me, my kids are too young, DS is 2 and DD is 16 weeks!:)

I have ,
Sight Training, Big Brain Academy, Brain Training, More Brain Taining.

Things like the DS Lite where not about when my kids were young. The first handheld that came out was the Gameboy which my eldest won in a packet of Coco Krispies. I would say he was about 7 at a guess.

Only you know your child, Poppyanna, but from my own experience with my two, handhelds or consoles have not stopped them from being active. If she started asking for one, then buy one but I wouldn't bother unless she actually wants one.

I think the educational programs for the DS Lite are really good and can help a child progress. I think they would have been really good for my two. The Brain games actively encourage mental maths which is good for any age. Plus things like French Coach, which I bought to brush up on my French, would be really useful for kids starting to learn French because you hear the French too. I know a school somewhere had bought a load of them to help the kids and I don't think it is that often school's get into this type of technology.

We have got loads of games between the 3 of us - Cooking Mama, Touchmaster (great game - my favourite), Sonic and Mario at the Olympic Games, Sims 2 pets, my Vet Practice, Yoshi's Island, Disney Friends, Build a Bear Workshop, Scrabble, Super Mario, Brain Training.

To be honest, my favourites are the platform games but I also like Disney Friends (I'm just a big kid at heart ;)) and Touchmaster is great - it's a compilation of lots of different card, board and puzzle games.

I agree, my DD doesn't have a particularly addictive personality like a few of her friends and she's really not a girl that wants to do what everybody else is doing (yet!), she says HSM is for older children - and I think she's right.
She has a leapster lmax handheld unit which she has three games for, these are educational with phonics and maths. I think we'll stick to that one for now - the longer I can put these things off the better, as far as I'm concered, as I think I'd end up wanting one to as I'd get addicted to it rather than her :rotfl:
