What does your state pay for Jury duty?

The problem isn't just whether your employer would pay for jury duty or not. There is also the problem of your absence being covered, then you calling in the night before and finding out that you don't have to show. Now you have your absence covered, but you are not going to jury duty.

Pennsylvania pays $9/day for 3 days, then $25 after that.

My work pays for 1 week. I was called for grand jury, which would have been 2 weeks. I had HR draft a letter stating I would not be paid for the 2nd week and asked for excuse for financial hardship. It was granted, but then I was called every 6 months for 3 years. It was stressful during the time I waited to hear if I was excused or not with a new baby in the house and hospital bills out the wazzoo. The HR department also was getting frustrated with me asking for letters to send stating that I only got paid for 1 week. He was getting a bit out of order with me, as if it is my fault they keep calling me for jury duty.

Oh that stinks- I just wait until after I call up to find out if I had to report to jury duty before calling my job and saying I won't be in the next day.
We have no limit on how long we get paid- one guy was on a 3 month trial and they paid him every single day he was serving.
One year way back I got called and it really sucked for me- back then I was junior at my job so I had Tuesday and Wednesday off--so I had to go to jury duty Mon-Fri and then work my job Saturday and Sunday...if that trial went on a month it would mean I didn't have a day off the whole month! Plus I was working nights so after getting off at 6am on Monday morning I had to be at jury duty that same morning-I was falling asleep in court!

Just received my first ever summons for Jury Duty. DH did Jury Duty when we were dating, and that was long ago, so I don't remember what he was paid then, but the paper I have says that I would be paid $10 per day.

Is this the norm? So if my DH were called, with his company not reimbursing for jury duty, that would be one tiny weekly paycheck!

I would not mind serving on a jury, in fact I think it might be very interesting, but I figure I have two counts against me. First, I am the sole caregiver for my mom, who has Alzheimer's and lives with me, and second, I am not an American Citizen. I do have a Green Card, and legal resident alien status, but have remained a citizen of my birth country for many reasons. Didn't think I would ever get called due to being a "foreigner", but I suppose things have changed!

Still surprised over the tiny stipend, though. Or is the state of IL being generous, and most states pay nothing?

Jury Duty rates can depend on your county. My county pays $17.20 per day.

wow and i thought we were cheap here in AB Canada they pay the following:

According to provincial legislation, jurors are paid $50 per day for Jury Duty. Jurors will be reimbursed for reasonable travel expenses. Any other expenses must be supported by receipts.

If overnight stays are required and approved by the Jury Management office, out-of-town jurors will have their accommodations expenses paid.

I have a great employer as well and they feel its important so I would still get paid my normal wage if choosen to serve on a jury. I would love to, but because of this fact alone i doubt i would ever be choosen...............

Technically, your employer (if you have one) is supposed to pay your regular salary/hourly pay for days you serve on jury duty (if your jury service is on a regular work day for you) If you don't have a job or whatever other reason that the above doesn't apply to you, then here in CT you can apply for a daily stipend, which is a whopping $20 per day. Heck, parking costs like $6 for the day, and they don't reimburse that, so the huge stipend doesn't last long.;)

Our receptionist has been on Grand Jury duty for six months -- two days a week. It really messes up the whole office dynamic, but at least it's long-term enough that they were able to get a long-term part time temp.

However, on days when she doesn't have to go in for jury duty for whatever reason, then we're overstaffed. But since she doesn't know until the night before, there's nothing anybody can do about it.

I received $40 per day - nice mad money for a stay at home mom.

not sure about parking, DH dropped me off

we got lunch, but only while we were in deliberations. We all brought in all kinds of goodies anyway and there was a Keurig for coffee.

What if you're on a temporary assignment out of state? My legal residence is about 800 miles from where I work now. I wouldn't mind doing jury duty, but I couldn't afford the flight home and back! I'm not in permanent housing here either so I can't really change my residence :confused3

Just like a student who is away at college, someone who has a business trip or vacation planned for the time they are called for, etc. you can usually get a postponement or reschedule to another day.

N.Y. $40 a day.. I was just summoned very recently, but excused for medical reasons..

Turns out everyone was excused though.. It was for the week of Aug. 29th and Hurricane Irene blasted the entire area for hundreds of miles, so everything under the sun was shut down..

Many, many years ago I was summoned and even way back then it was $15 or $18 a day.. $10 a day is pretty pathetic..
